There are a lot of good things to say about this motel. There are some bad things, too, so let's start with the good. The rooms are large, clean and tastefully decorated; the beds are very comfortable. The motel is very dog friendly, which is terrific for us as we travel with our big poodle. She made a friend and they had a good time playing in the grassed area. The Caliente Tropic is a bit far from town, so a car is useful. The staff is pleasant. The pool area is large and the pool is attractive. It's a good place for children, too as there seemed to be a lot around when we were there and they were all having a very good time. Now for the not so good. The exterior of the buildings are a bit shabby and have seen better days. The staff seem a bit lax about picking up trash around the grounds. The Caliente Tropic can't really call itself a resort as therere is no bar or restaurant - indeed no service of any kind unless a vending machine for soft drinks and candy counts as food service. The biggest problem here is the lack of after hours security. We stayed there for 5 nights and two of those nights were interrupted by other guests having loud drunken parties in the (closed) pool area. When I called the front desk to complain the first time, the noise did die down around 2 a.m.; the second night of loud parties though, the desk clerk had gone home and the noise went on till nearly dawn. Even with the noise and the shabbiness and lack of amenities, the Caliente Tropic is overall a pretty good place to stay especially if you have a dog. The value is good during the week, when a nice room including dog fee will set you back about $100 a night. On weekends, however, the rate nearly doubles and the place just isn't worth the extra bucks. For nearly $200 a night, even in Palm Springs, you can do better. For $100. though, it's fine.
as far from the hot tub/pool area may cut the noise of the loud late parties.
