I booked my room at Hotel.com. I stayed at the Plaza Hotel in August 2006. I was very lucky. My room was beautiful. Yes, the building is old, but my room was on the other side of the building(one story). Not the old side of the building(three stories). When I walked in my room I was very surprised. The room was very clean and I'm guessing that the room was just remodeled. Beautiful decor, huge rap around patio which you can access through the patio doors of the bedroom and living room. The kitchen had new appliances and a huge breakfast bar. A catheral ceiling with a skylight in the living room and bedroom. Nice view of the palm trees and mountains by just sitting or moving around through out the room. Remember the room I stayed in was a room with no other rooms above me. I'm not kidding!!. There were two bathrooms. A nice and cozy master bedroom. Green plants through out. The photos that I saw on various website was definetly different from the room that I stayed in.

“Beware!”

Plaza Resort and Spa

Let me begin by saying that I am not one who usually complains or takes the time to fill out these surveys. However, I don't wish other families to have the horrible time mine had this past weekend so... The resort certainly does not deserve a four star rating. The entire place has a feeling of being old and run down. The golf course that can be seen from your room balcony is dead, making this place even more depressing than it already is.

There was no record of my reservation from Resorttime, luckily I had printed my confirmation. The front desk staff was a bit rude throughout my stay, especially after I complained about the problems in my room.

The tennis courts looked to be in good condition, and the pools were clean, but the area around them looked run down. The Saturday continental breakfast consisted of packaged food and juice, not even any toast. The Sunday pancake breakfast was $4pp, and based on the condition of the rest of the resort, we didn't give it a try.

My family stayed in two units (one room, one bath) during our stay, as I complained about the first one until they agreed to move us to another room. The first unit was in a horrible state of disrepair. The first thing my family noticed upon arriving to our unit was the fact that once inside the unit we could still hear a conversation going on in the hallway about two rooms down as plain as if we were still out in the hall itself. The doors and walls are so thin you can stand outside your room with the door shut and have a conversation with someone within your unit in a normal speaking tone with no problem. If you like privacy with anything you say, this resort is not for you!

The mirror and cieling in the bathroom was spotted with brown and black molds. The knobs to turn the shower on were not attached with screws and fell off at the slightest touch. The tub itself had a crudley fabricated 2'x2' patch on the floor which was unpleasant to stand on while showering. The floor of the bathroom was sticky after showering. In addition, there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom to vent steam. After showering, the steam and heat dispersed throughout the rooms, and the A/C in the rooms is marginal as it is, leaving us to endure a muggy unpleaseant feeling for hours therafter.

The living room furniture was ugly, worn, and uncomfortable. The distribution of the furniture gave the feeling of the resort trying to fill the space, as opposed to making the room comfortable.

The appliances in the kitchen were not even plugged in when we arrived, and there was only one outlet located within reach of the applianced, leaving you to use them one at a time. The microwave didn't function, and the LED lights displayed an error code. Lacking an oven as well, we had no way to reheat food we brought back from lunch.

The layout of the bedroom was somewhat unusual in that there was a 5'x3' long shelf located a few feet off the ground on one side of the room, with no appearent use. The matress and pillows were uncomfortable, and my wife swore they smelled (my sense of smell is not so good). There were lights mounted on the wall that you turn on and off by touch, however these had the most annoying feature of turning themsleves on to full brightness in the middle of the night... we ended up unplugging them.

My family awoke the first morning of our stay at 7am, to extremely loud hammering in the room directly above us. After enduring the noise for about 15 minutes, I called the front desk to complain. After being rudely told that it was construction and would be going on all week, I asked if they could please stop it until later on in the day (this was @ 7:15 am on a saturday, mind you). The front desk hesitated, obviously very unhappy with the request, before saying he would ask and hanging up the phone without saying goodbye. It took another 20 minutes before the work finally quieted down, but by that time my entire family was wide awake with our heads pounding.

Just before leaving on our trip, I checked tripadvisor to see if there were any updates on the Plaza Resort & Spa in Palm Springs California on Golf Course Drive. Thank-you to the one who suggested requesting a room on the golf course side! Yes! Golf course side! We stayed on the 2nd floor room #216. The views from the two separate balconies of our room(s) were of palm tree lined, manicured golf course greens, and we still had a mountain view backdrop as you can see in the pictures. If you look left from either balcony you see an even closer view of the mountains beyond the greens. The golf course side is far more beautiful and relaxing when the alternative is sitting on a balcony over looking the busy front lobby and the resort's parking lot.

If your interested in ambiance... golf course side is for you.

Check in was smooth, in fact we called to see if we could get an early check-in, and when Andrew said an hour early, he held true to his word and provided us with this great set of rooms. Second floor. Interior hallways and elevator. In addition there is a schedule providing various activities for guests depending on the days of your stay. We were invited to a breakfast at no cost, although we didn't indulge.

This is a time share. A fabulous character concierge named Barbie will approach you upon check-in with nothing short of the expected "Palm Springs charm" and offer you a $50.00 dollar coupon upon the giving of your time attending their scheduled time share promotion. We had plans that day and didn't attend.

Maid service is different from what most of us might recall maid service to be. The maids will come in each day to empty your trash, collect dirty towels, and provide clean ones. They do not tidy up, make, or change your bed every day. If your stay is 5 days or more, on the middle day they will clean your entire room, including bed change, vacuuming, etc. Without reading the welcome guide I would have wondered why they didn't do particular things each day. I did over hear another guest had maid service charges on her bill, perhaps this was done at her request.

The bathroom wasn't great, just a bathroom, not unlike any average bathroom with tub/shower. Water is hot, but tub drainage was slow.

Kitchen was perfect. Everything you need is provided, from wine glasses, patio glasses, to dishes, pots & pans, dish soap/strainer/kitchen towels.

Second hurray advice would be choose the... One Bedroom! This includes a separate king size bed room with locking double doors. Once inside the bedroom there is a 25" TV with VHS machine (can rent movies at desk) and you can reach a private covered balcony through the bedroom.

The other connecting room has a mini kitchen as described in the hotel information, a bar with two bar stools, a dining area table with 4 chairs, a queen sofa bed and a full sofa love-seat. Linen for both living area sofa beds is provided in closet. There is another 25" TV and another walk out balcony with two chairs and a little table. Smokers... outside on balconies, which is reasonable and lovely to sit out on any time of day, eve, or night.

Lit pool area is to the right from balconies. We were far enough away from the pool area so as not to feel we were looking down on other guests enjoying the hot tubs or pool. Water area stays open until 11pm, but not pressured. The interior lobby glass does look out onto the pool courtyard, although lobby glass is tinted. Gas BBQ grill area is accessable behind the pool area. There is a second more private pool which excludes children.

Our son, his wife, 3 nieces and nephew who live in Cathedral City all came over and made a day of playing in the heated pool and hot tubs after golf and breakfast. We were met with warm smiles from the staff of the resort.

One late night after winning a "tiny" amount at a local casino our son and daughter-in-law slept over using the sofa bed room.

The spaciousness of using the two rooms was a great and comfortable plus to our stay at the Plaza Resort & Spa. Had a nice time.

Think we got a deal~~~ Sat$190.00 - Sun$190.00 - Mon 3rd night free.

We stayed at the Plaza for a quick getaway February 22-26 2006. Took a chance through Hotwire and were pleasantly surprised with our last-minute reservations here.
Turns out the Plaza is managed by Fairfield Resorts. We found the room and facilities very clean and the staff friendly and accommodating. The main pool area has both spas and the large pool and available shade. The smaller adults-only pool has no shade (and no kids!-great for reading and sunning). A tennis court is across the parking lot. There are gas BBQ's in both pool areas. Very close to golf.

Our assigned room was a 3rd floor studio with "mountain view". Try to avoid 1st floor MV rooms as there is a lot of parking lot you may be viewing (maybe noise and privacy issues as well). The only negatives to our room was the fridge sweated water inside and the showerhead is a little low for a six-footer.
We took advantage of the wine and cheese on Friday evening and the Sunday pancakes and sausage breakfast.
For groceries and liquor, a Super Wal-Mart is 5 minutes away. Downtown Palm Springs 10-15 minutes.

I personally think it's terrible here. I am only stuck here now (he said I couldn't check out early)because the guy who answered the phone at the front desk told me he NEVER had a complaint (the reason I was calling) of the shower water getting immediately cold when someone in an adjoining room also takes a shower (after I had to turn off the water, it suddenly lost ALL the hot water and was freezing when somebody in a room next door or something also took a shower) You could actually hear when they turned it on and off as it also is extremely loud going trough the walls here. It smells horrible here, like mildew (that's actually what the housekeeper called it)and when we got here my husband was full of energy, now he feels really sick (and he never gets sick!). The refrigerator leaks water for some reason and they charge you a $1.00 for each pack of coffee beyond the one you only get when checking in. The view of the golf course was good although I feel sorry for anyone on the other side with a so called "mountain view" as it's only a view of the parking lot. I called the front desk when I was feezing after the shocking cold shower, the front desk guy was NO HELP at all and I told him I was going to check out today instead of tomorrow and because I needed to find a hotel where I could take a shower that had both cold AND hot water and he told me that wasn't a good reason! He actually said that. You will also get called and left messages by the "conceirge" who will offer incentives to go to their sales pitch to try and get people to but the timeshares here (I can't believe anyone would want to buy one). The area around the front entrance by the parking lot smells hideous (like raw sewage) and the bathroom did in here too, before we got the air freshner from the house keeper. Honestly, this place really is not healthy.
