It's nicer than a basic motel, and my room was clean and decently appointed for this class of hotel. My room was quiet, and it seemed like the bathroom had been recently upgraded. If the story ended there, I'd have rated it "average".
However, in what must be the most perplexing decision ever, the hotel has rented ground-floor space to an (excellent) BBQ restuarant. Like all great BBQ restaurants, this business has several large meat smokers hard at work smoking the meats to be served in the restuarant.
That means that if you're outside on your patio or laying by the pool, the air is filled with the strong aroma of smoked meat. It's not just a little whiff here and there, the fragrance is in the air all the time.
I'm not scent sensitive, it's just that I don't want to smell BBQ while I'm staying in a hotel. It's one thing to be in Hawaii and have the air smell like flowers, it's competely another to have the meat scent lingering in the air.
Incidentally, the restuarant is excellent, but whoever made the decision to rent ground floor hotel space to a BBQ restaurant wasn't thinking about the quality of the hotel and the comfort of hotel guests.
I won't stay there again.
