“Not Smoke-Free!”

Best Western Inn at Palm Springs

I booked this stay knowing that this particular Best Western would be a mid-level motel, so wasn't expecting luxurious accomodations. However, I was pleased to note in the description of the property that it was advertised as being "smoke-free." Indeed!! When I spoke to the desk assistant about this policy, noting that the rooms smelled vaguely of smoke, he replied (as he stood RIGHT OUTSIDE the lobby door SMOKING!) that "only the rooms were designated smoke-free." In addition to the receptionist smoking, there were sand-filled urns in the outside hallways that were filled with cigarette butts, and I saw several people smoking around the pool. This was a problem for me as the room I stayed in was extremely dark and dingy (mold on the ceiling above the shower) and did not invite habitation other than to sleep. So my husband and I left the property each morning after a hastily consumed (and complementary ) cup of coffee and a bowl of oatmeal. Thank goodness for the wide open spaces of the desert surrounding Palm Springs. We spent our days hiking in Indian Canyon and exploring the area, NOT lounging at the pool at the Best Western. Will never stay here again.

Have stayed here twice,in 2004 and 2006.Loved the hotel first time round but on our second visit did encounter problems with the room which im glad to say were rectified.
We arrived at hotel just after 8 and were given room 418,unfortunatly there was alot of noise coming outside which appeared to be something to do with the air ventilating system, the noise was quite constant and fairly loud so we asked for another room. The receptionist was very pleasant and apologetic and gave us room 424.The problems were not over though,in this room we were greeted with a really awfull smell,it smelt of cat urine. We looked round to see if we could discover the source of the problem, which my daughter found when she stepped in to a wet patch outside the bathroom! There was no way on earth we could stay in this room so again went to see the reeptionist who told us the only other room was 418,so we decided to go back and sleep with the noise, which in the end didnt seem to much of a problem although it did keep my wife awake.Next morning we moved to room 210,which was very clean and quiet.
Apart from that i like the best western although it is a little way from the main part of the town.
The receptionists were always very cheerfull and could,nt do enough for you.The rooms are a good size and a good powerfull shower in bathroom.Did find though that the cold water was never really that cold, infact it was quite warm, not sure if this is because of the desert location.
Love the pool area and the moutains behind.Bfast is,nt actually included instead there is a cabin by the pool where you can buy cereals and fruit etc.Usually we would buy our own stuff and bring it down to the pool with us in the morning.
On our first visit the guy in the cabin was very friendly,so friendly infact he wouldnt stop chatting and he was a big fan of Julie Andrews,we always found it quite funny if somebody got caught chatting to him,as theyd end up there for the rest of the morning!!
I love Palm Springs and recommed a trip to the Indian canyons where you will see all types of different Palm trees as you walk along the trail and some very stange rock formations as well as loads of lizards.Thankfully we didnt come across any Rattle Snakes! Also the Village Fest on a thurs evening is well recommended.Although if you bring the car my advice is get parked up early!
I would stay at the Best Western again although next time around id like to spend a little more and be a little closer to the main hub of things!

We stayed one night at Best Western Inn Palm Springs in October 2007

Neighborhood
Palm Springs is generally a nice place to stay. The Best Western is in a nice part of town, close to the mountains that border the city to the north. Not necessarily smack dab in the middle of things, but at least within city limits. This is the typical motel style, with rooms directly available from the courtyard, which makes it all the more important to stay in a nice neighborhood.

Room
We were pleasantly surprised to find a room that was clean and nicely furnished with a comfortable bed. A/C worked well. as did the TV and the mini-fridge.

Bathroom
Was clean and nice. Very nice for such a reasonably priced place.

Service
We met a nice and talkative receptionist that was very willing to show us where we might find a bite to eat late at night, and showed us where to go while in Palm Springs. Breakfast is not included, and at $8 a person for a glass of juice and a bagel, we passed.

Summary
We didn't know what to expect when we booked a room at $50 a night, but the Tripadvisor reviews were good, so we took the chance. And we're glad we did. This Best Western was definitely worth the money, and we can readily recommend it to people looking for a good place to sleep in Palm Springs.

Pretty nice room for the price. I did a lot of research and for under $100, this was definitely one of the better ones. Recently renovated room with plush carpet and cool secluded pool/hot tub area. A bonus was a VERY friendly front desk woman who gave us a GREAT suggestion for dinner (Miro's, which you can walk to).

Four night stay in October 2007. Deep discount, thanks to a specific site. Without that discount, I would have been less accepting of two specific and unusual negatives. (1) From the time of check-in, until the time of checkout, towels and washcloths (one partially stained) were in inadequate supply for the three occupants, until I raised the threat of outside intervention from off-site managers (customer service); (2) Outright dishonesty at the 'breakfast by the pool' attendant, who collected $5 per head for each request for breakfast on the first morning. She was quickly 'busted' when, seated just a few feet further away, one of several of my fellow WEDDING PARTY guests (surprise!) immediately told me that this was not the case. More sampling with others confirmed my exception. When confronted, the front desk attendant attempted a dry joke, then attempted to suggest that my reduced room rate was the reason (which the pool attendant would not have known). When cornered, she created a hand written note for me to use with this pool/breakfast attendant. Next time I'm in Palm Springs, I won't be staying here. I hope the attendant enjoyed the $10.
