This is really an okay hotel... no complaints other than the fact the keycard didn't work and I had to keep going back to the front desk for a new one. Repeatedly. And apparently, it happens often. The staff was friendly and apologized, but after one time, shouldn't they have helped me with it... gone with me to my room to make sure it worked?
The thing is, I don't get why this place gets raves. Really! Don't get it. The decor is kind of odd... fine, but bizarrely Tuscan Vegas-y in the lobby, whereas the exterior is Cape Cod-like. The rooms are nothing special, but fine, not just redone, but not old.
I guess all the other hotels in the area must genuinely not be good. I'd stay here again, but I can't say this place is anything than average, especially for the price. One last thing, it looks great in photos, but the marina is literally on the 101 and our room looked out over the marina... and the freeway. And I think we got the good view.

This is a beautiful place that I would classify as a 4 star hotel. We were treated very well by the staff and at the restaurant. Parking is easy and free. This could be a good base for a Sonoma County wine tasting trip. Pet friendly if your pet is extremely well behaved.

I stayed with my husband and really, I was expecting more out of a sheraton...

We had a very nice time last weekend at the Sheraton Petaluma. It is right next to the freeway, but you can't tell that once you are inside. There is a beautiful view of the marina from part of the property. The beds are VERY comfortable, the bathrooms clean and adequate. Nice linens and decent towels, large TV. The decor was your usual business class hotel generic decor. My only complaint about the room was that the curtains went just below the window and some light got in--I much prefer they go to the floor as i am a very light sleeper!! There is a 7-11 within a 5 minute walk in case you get the late night munchies. Room service is very reasonable--full breakfast was $13 and delicious.
The bar is a nice place to have a drink and meet up with friends. I think they do a free taco bar during happy hour. I didn't agree that the pool was oddly placed--it was adequately shielded from the restaurant windows by a gate/fence covered in vines. The hot tub was busy so we didn't really ever feel like visiting it (although it was well tended and clean).
The staff were all helpful and nice. This hotel is about a 5-minute drive from downtown--we took a cab ($10 with tip) as we were going to a show. All in all a nice, relaxing weekend at a great hotel!
