“Great oceanview location”

The Cliffs Resort

1 May 2008

This hotel overlooks the ocean and has nice views from the outside decks around the pool and bar area as well as from the rooms. There is a concrete walk along the beach (upon the cliffs) and a stairway down to the beach. Even though it is not a small place, the hotel has a boutique-hotel feel, with a comfortable lobby area. Rooms are updated and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Excellent omlettes at the breakfast buffet!

“Not bad!”

Not a bad stay at all. Likes: Nice activities for the kids, especially smores and storytelling around the campsite. The room was large, clean and well appointed and the location was ideal. The food at Marisol's was very yummy and reasonably priced. Dislikes: 1) Not enough parking. Although valet parking is complementary, I still felt obligated to tip the valets, 2) staff was helpful but not especially friendly, in fact, many were somewhat dauer in their expression, 3) I booked a ocean view room but told them that I was bringing my pre-teen children and thus would need a roll-away bed along with the King (which was all they had available.) Our room was clearly designed for a romantic get-away, as the whirlpool tub and shower were exposed to the living area... no doors. Thus privacy was impossible. Not a big hit with my kids. Otherwise, I would stay again, but book in plenty of time to get a room with two queens and a fully enclosed bathroom, which I know they have, because I took a peek at a few of the rooms that were being cleaned. I would look past the dauer faces and enjoy the view, the accomodations, the location and the food.

“A little tired”

The Cliffs Resort

An okay hotel...but.. a bit tired. They had a lot of activities for the kids but the actual accomodations were very worn out. The bathrooms were very old looking and if there is one thing I cannot stand, it is a bathroom that seems dirty and old. Don't get me wrong it was an okay hotel... just very tired looking. Not sure if I would stay there again, unless they update the facilities. The Marisol restaurant next door...don't bother. Zorros cafe down the street is fabulous. It is worth waiting for the food.

“Absolutely LOVE this place”

The Cliffs Resort

24 Feb 2008

This is one of my luxury stops while driving from DFW to San Francisco. I actually go out of my way to stay here. If you have a dog and want to stay in a resort hotel on the ocean, this is THE place for you!

I have stayed here about 7 times. A friend told me about it and I decided to check it out on my way home. Boy am I glad that I did.

The hotel staff is stellar and they have a fabulous chef. I ordered some scallops that were literally bigger than my fist. (Yes, I have small hands, but still.....) I had made a special request for some berries with my meal and they told me they didn't have any, but somehow they managed to end up with my dinner and they were the freshest fruit I've ever eaten.

The rooms are big with plantation shutters that slide along the floor to ceiling windows which give you a view of the ocean, pool or mountains. All the pet owners are on the bottom floor and you can walk straight out of your sliding doors to the many beautifully landscaped grounds. The pool has a disappearing edge that turns into a waterfall along the side of the pool. My last room faced both the pool/waterfall and the ocean, and it was amazing.

The staff is always courteous. They provide doggy beds and bowls for the guests.

The bedding is a version of the Westin Heavenly Beds and I always had a great night's sleep.

There's a night club and outdoor bar, and several other hotels that you can walk along the beach to.

I'm including some photos -- I really took them for the view, not the rooms, but it might help. :)
