“our favorite Pismo getaway”

The Cliffs Resort

3 May 2008

We love this hotel. We stayed here a few months ago without our dogs on our way back from a Northern California trip and couldn't wait to return with our dogs. The first time we stayed, we were upgraded to a suite in one of the dog rooms (although we didn't have our dogs ) and the room was amazing. The room was incredibly large with a whirlpool tub and a breathtaking oceanfront view.

I called the hotel directly to book the same room and explained that we were bringing our 2 dogs. When we arrived, we were given a different room on the second floor because the room we were promised would be next to a room under construction. The new room was also beautiful, but not dog friendly. Our previous room was on the first floor and opened up to a huge grassy courtyard where we could easily take the dogs out.

When we expressed our concerns with management they were more than helpful and accomadating. It surprises me that there were some reviews with complaints about the staff because our experience was totally different. Everyone was so friendly and wanted to make sure we were happy with our stay. The manager allowed us to stay in the room we wanted and told us if the construction next door was bothersome at all we could switch rooms at any time. We saw some of the construction workers on our last day, but we didn't hear any noise and we were not bothered at all.

I really enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the Marisol restaurant every morning. The restaurant overlooks the ocean and they offer a wide variety of delicious breakfast foods.

We took the dogs to the beach below everyday and let them run free. We had an amazing time and I'm counting down the days until we can return again. I highly recommend this hotel!!!

“Dishonest, rude and overpriced”

Along with the large service fee that is added to your nightly rate, in my case an additional $26.80 per night for quoted rates of $118 (weekday) and $153 (weekend. For my 4 day trip my room rates came to $543 but i was charged an additional $107 (20%) making my total $650. It doesnt stop there. I just received my credit card statement and noticed I had a $30 charge from the Cliffs, but I had not had any extra services provided to me during my stay. I called the hotel to get this fixed, but instead I was informed that when I signed for my hotel keys, i also signed stating that I agreed to pay an additional $7 a night for resort fees. The amount was not what bothered me, but the dishonest way in which it was charged to me. I asked to speak to a manager but received a voice message. I just spoke to the manager, and I could not believe how rude she was. She did not appologize for the situation and told me I was lying when I told her that the $7 fee was not verbally communicated to me. Avila and Pismo Beach are beautiful areas, and I have stayed in many hotels up hear. If you want quality, great view, new rooms, and a friendly staff stay at either the Lighthouse Suites or Mission Inn.

“Great oceanview location”

The Cliffs Resort

1 May 2008

This hotel overlooks the ocean and has nice views from the outside decks around the pool and bar area as well as from the rooms. There is a concrete walk along the beach (upon the cliffs) and a stairway down to the beach. Even though it is not a small place, the hotel has a boutique-hotel feel, with a comfortable lobby area. Rooms are updated and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Excellent omlettes at the breakfast buffet!

Not a bad stay at all. Likes: Nice activities for the kids, especially smores and storytelling around the campsite. The room was large, clean and well appointed and the location was ideal. The food at Marisol's was very yummy and reasonably priced. Dislikes: 1) Not enough parking. Although valet parking is complementary, I still felt obligated to tip the valets, 2) staff was helpful but not especially friendly, in fact, many were somewhat dauer in their expression, 3) I booked a ocean view room but told them that I was bringing my pre-teen children and thus would need a roll-away bed along with the King (which was all they had available.) Our room was clearly designed for a romantic get-away, as the whirlpool tub and shower were exposed to the living area... no doors. Thus privacy was impossible. Not a big hit with my kids. Otherwise, I would stay again, but book in plenty of time to get a room with two queens and a fully enclosed bathroom, which I know they have, because I took a peek at a few of the rooms that were being cleaned. I would look past the dauer faces and enjoy the view, the accomodations, the location and the food.
