Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Sea Crest. To be fair, they bill themselves as a "Resort Motel" which is the first clue that this is a budget property.

The hotel itself was adequate...the rooms were spacious but not luxurious but the views were fantastic. You are right on the water's edge. The room decor was dated even though there was aparently a recent renovation. It was definitely only a 2 star place. Staff was very nice, however. One notable problem was that they did not have enough food or coffee ready for the guests at the morning continental breakfast. There is also very little seating. Our second morning, there was no coffee at all and we were told it would take at least 30 minutes for their machine to brew it. So, we sat out on the lawn facing the ocean, ate our bagels and drank our OJ and then drove to Starbucks!

I never even thought about the fact that it was a beach hotel on spring break but it was loaded with partying college kids so it was NOT quiet!! This was very poor planning on my part but we were visiting for a college tour. The first night we were awakened at least 6 or 8 times, the 2nd night was better.

All-in-all (spring break not withstanding) this would be a decent budget beach hotel if you are just looking for a place to crash at the end of the day.

My husband and I spent 4 days and 3 nights at the Sea Crest Resort Motel and we loved every minute of it. We stayed in Room 121 where we had an ocean view room, walked out onto a patio with two chairs and serving table, coffee maker and refrigerator were available. The bathroom was well designed and the room overall was very clean. The maid staff were so friendly and without hesitation gave us the extra towels we requested. A nice continental breakfast was served each and every morning. The hotel guests that I met in this area were so amiable. The hotel management was absolutely the greatest.

We ambled down the walkway from our room and down a long, long flight of stairs to the beach. We had a great time strolling along the beach looking for sea life in the tidepools; watched the surfers maneuver through the waves; enjoyed the otters frolicking in the surf; soaked up the rays of the sun; witnessed beautiful sunsets while relaxing on our patio listening to the rhythm of the waves.

The outlets at Pismo are great for shopping as is the little town of Cambria up the coast on Hwy 1.

Weather was absolutely perfect. One thing I did notice was that the motel was full for the weekend and yet it was very quiet - not a rowdy clientele at all. There is security roaming the grounds which gave me an added feeling of safety since the beach is accessible to the public from the stairs and parking lot.

We have already put in our reservations for 2009.

The carpeting in our room was separating at the doorway to the bathroom. I reported this to the management and was told that the rooms will be undergoing renovations during the coming year and next. The motel was recently sold and the new owners have plans for total renovations - so be aware to ask what type of renovation is gong on when making your reservations.

At check in I was told the room would not be ready for two hours. I sat in the lobby and worked on my laptop as I watched them check in six couples whose rooms were apparently ready! I felt slighted by that. When I went back up and asked if my room was ready less than 20 min. after I checked in they said it was ready! I was listening to the staff when I was the only one in the lobby and their entire approach was "it's us against the customer" and I watched as they denied requests right and left.
Once I got into my room, it was okay. Carpets were stained, the view was terrific, nothing on the walls and a TV with really bad reception.
I was in the room less than 30 min. when some kind of sewage came up through the bathtub drained. It smelled horrible.
By the looks of the cliente, it also seems to be a "party" property. Lots of drinking and drunks...even in February!
I am usually not a nitpicker about where I stay, but the attuitude of the check-in staff (maintenance and housecleaning were great!) plus the fact they charge $500 a night in prime season here makes these problems more significant. I felt I overpaid at $100 a night. At $500 a night it's a travesty!
If you just want a motel very conveniently located on a bluff above the ocean (very steep walk down to the beach), can get past indifferent check-in people and don't mind the negatives I've listed here then this place is for you.

We have now stayed here for 6 years as we make an annual excursion to Pismo Beach. There is truly no value like this hotel. It has an excellent location and it has some of the easiest ocean access of any hotel in Pismo (remember that Pismo is on a cliff). The facility (like always) was very clean and the staff is very considerate. One little thing--they need more newspaper machines for the major newspapers (LA Times, SF Chronicle, etc) as they sell out VERY early in the morning. Overall, this is definitely the best value in Pismo.
