My wife and I stayed at the Cottage Inn for our 34th wedding anniversary. We were pleased at the size and quality of the room, with large windows that face the ocean, and a semi-private patio off the room with great views of the ocean. Unfortunately our room was adjacent to the ice machine which serenaded us with the loud compressor noise all night. Fortunately the sound of the ocean waves helped us tune out the cacophony of the ice machine.
The continental breakfast was really fabulous. Everything from cold cereal to self-cooked waffles is available. Fresh squeezed orange juice, apple juice, great hot coffee, bagels, toast of all kinds, croissants, and much more is available. And the hours of service are long enough to allow one to sleep in and still have some of everything.
I was a little disappointed with two things: the mattress was really soft, almost spongy, and it really made my back hurt. When I reported this to the staff they were understanding, and aware of the complaints. They reported that new mattresses are coming soon.
The other issue was the cleanliness of the glassware in the room. After seeing the news reports of mishandling of hotel/motel glassware I marked the glasses my wife and I used. After the staff had cleaned the room, the same glasses were back on the table complete with the little paper cap. They obviously were not sanitized in any acceptable way or the mark would have been removed. I used the wrapped plastic cups after that. I trust this will be rectified soon.
My wife reported a couple of other issues. There was mold around the bathroom window and under the soap dish. There was chewing gum stuck on the headboard which we had to remove. The headboard and other areas of the room could use a little more attention to clean the dust. The carpet could use a better cleaning, especially under the bed. An item of ours rolled under the bed and when we reached under to retrieve it we noticed how dirty it was
On the whole our stay was fine. We will stay there again the next time we need a nice hotel.

Thank you so much for your comments in regards to your recent stay. I just wanted to clarify what our procedures are for cleaning our guestroom glassware. We have a commercial dishwasher that is used to sanitize all of our glasses with a 3 part system from a respectable distributer and all glasses are removed from the room and brought to the kitchen to be cleaned since, the video's have surfaced we had a company wide meeting with the houskeeping staff where we showed the video and discussed the importance of sanitizing all items in the room. I have shared your comments with my staff and I can assure you had you brought this to our attention we would have gladly replaced the glasses for you immediately.
