Me and my husband stayed here for one night on a road trip in the area. We got a small double bed room for 75.00 on a Thursday night. As I was walking to the room I was expecting a tiny room you could barely turn around in. But when I opened the door I was pleasantly surprised...it was larger than I expected. Plenty of room to walk around the bed that had two nightstands, dresser, tv on table and a large closet area that had the clothes rack and a small table set up for coffee service. It had a full bathroom that was small but I have seen this size bathrooms in other modern hotels that we have stayed in. We had no problem getting hot water for showers...good water preassure too. The bed was a double...pretty comfortable, it might be small for two large people but was fine for us or just one person. The room's furniture was antique. I was happy with the room for the price to be right on the main street in old town Placerville. You could walk to shops and restaurants along the main street. Parking was free, they give you a tag to put on your car dashboard for a city lot in the back of the hotel. There is some walking from your car to the front door (the back door is a fire exit only), but really its not bad to me but then I am a walker and don't mind it. The elevator is small and there is only one, its the old fashioned kind that you have to pull open the gate to step in and shut it which some people might find cumbersome especially when you have luggage. We mostly used the wide carpeted staircase to our fourth floor room for exercise. If you are not accustomed to walking and need a large modern elevator this may not be the place for you to stay. I found the staff nice and helpful with suggestions on restaurants in the area. Check in process was smooth. They let me go look at the room before deciding to stay there just to make sure before I handed them my credit card. The only negative that bothered me was the breakfast area is very small for a hotel this size. The area was very tight and was hard to get your food without bumping into people. We ate outdoors on a nice patio courtyard accessed from the breakfast room as the inside eating area with only two or three large tables was full with families. The breakfast is the typical continental you find at most hotels, its okay. But that would not keep me from staying here again if I was in the area. Overall I enjoyed staying here and was pleased with the room. Check out the glass enclosed counters with historic items from the hotel's past in the lobby next to the registration desk.
