While my husband was in a nearby hospital I found I needed to be in the area longer than anticipated. I saw a listing in the phone book for the Hampton Inn, but when they answered it was the Holiday Inn Express, a chain where I would not normally ever stay based on a friend's experiences. They had purchased the property recently and they assured me they had made no changes. Based on our wonderful experiences with Hamptons elsewhere, I booked a room. This property is very new...one of the more recent Hampton Inns with upscale linens, baths, and furniture. The only thing that's changed is the name. Breakfast wasn't wonderful but I was able to choose items that were good from among the large choices. The bed was superb and there was no noise from surrounding rooms. The only noise was from the Burger King and Wendy's parking lots under my window. Ask for a room on the north side so you'll be facing other motel parking lots instead. They have hi-speed Internet and take-away bagged breakfasts if you're in a big hurry. Lovely heavy towels. Good room lighting. Rates are higher during the week because it's the Bay area but lower by about 25% on the weekends. Unfortunately many people won't know this is really a Hampton Inn. It's definitely worth a try! The staff was very accomodating and lovely. There was plenty of parking and the spaces were not small. Even the garage is landscaped with plants around the edge. A lovely fountain with a replica El Camino bell welcomes you. The room's refrigerator and microwave are hidden in a lovely cabinet. It's located just a block from Highway 84 and half a block from Starbucks. There are good restaurants in Redwood City but no good ones really close to the hotel. I ate one night at La Azteca which is a block in front of the hotel....always an old favorite when we lived in the Bay area. Unfortunately it was a terrible meal. A better choice for Mexican would be Sancho's Tacqueria over near Sequoia Hospital and 280.
