My family stayed 9 nights in a 2-room suite, #221. The room was enormous, especially by California standards.
The room has a large sitting area with couch (which may have been a sofa bed?), sofa-chair, desk & chair, TV and dresser. The square kitchen table seats four. The kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, sink, dishwasher, microwave, coffee-maker and 2-burner stove. Plates, utensils and pots/pans were also provided. Some of the pots left something to be desired, and we were short on plates/utensils to get up to 4 for a meal. The front desk gave us plastic-ware, but couldn't provide extra plates. We ended up taking disposable items from the breakfast buffet.
The bathroom was large, with a long counter, but no storage or shelves. There was a hair dryer and round double-sided mirror attached to the wall. The bathroom has doors into the main area and to the bedroom.
Our bedroom had 2 queen beds, TV w/VCR, dresser, and a LOTof open floor space. French doors to the main room were great - after putting the kids to bed we closed up the doors and could easily stay up for a couple more hours without disrupting their sleep.
The fitness room has two treadmills and two stationary bicycles, one of which is recumbent, with a TV, water cooler and plenty of towels.
There's a coin-operated laundry room on the 2nd floor with one washer and one dryer, along with a small vending machine for purchasing detergent and dryer sheets.
Breakfast was very good, and did vary slightly during the week. Make-your-own waffles, bread and bagels, danishes, yogurt, cereals, a variety of coffees (always available), milk (whole and 2%), apple and orange juices, along with oranges and bananas. Scrambled eggs and seasoned potatoes (home fries?) were available every morning, and bacon/ham/sausage were rotated during the week but not on the weekend.
Most of the guests we saw seemed to be business travelers. The VTA light rail line goes past the hotel, and is a very short walk to the Gish station. The rail line is electric and sound is extremely minimal, so we didn't notice it within the hotel. You can take the VTA to the convention center, downtown San Jose, or connect to the CalTrain to go up to San Francisco, among other places.
The lobby has a computer with printer available with internet access, and I never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to jump on.
We did have problems with noise from the room above us most nights, so if and when we return I will definitely ask for something on the 3rd floor (rooms are on 2nd & 3rd floor, parking is on ground floor).
There were some other problems we experienced, but those were addressed within a few days by the staff - there were several non-functioning lightbulbs in the bathroom, and the previous guest apparently decided to swipe the alarm clock.
Housekeeping seemed very efficient, although during the week we seemed to frequently come back mid-afternoon and have to wait for housekeeping to finish up. I have to say, however, that I think this was due to one particular person, as most of the staff seemed extremely friendly and speedy. Our room was definitely clean every day.
There's a Denny's next door and a 7-Eleven on the corner, which was great for stocking up on milk and things like that. There's also Chinese, Japanese and Moroccan restaurants all within one or two blocks from the hotel. We tried the Cathay (Chinese) and were very happy with the food. We were also able to cook several dinners in our room which was a great savings.
We won't hesitate to come back here again and consider this hotel to be a great value.
