We arrived at this hotel around 10:30 p.m. after a day on the road. We noticed a sort of funky odor in the hallways, which got worse in the elevator, like a baby's diaper that hadn't been attended to. Our room smelled even worse, like wet dog or wet carpet. The carpet was actually damp in some places. We saw black spots (mildew, mold?) on the bathroom wall. We were too tired to make a fuss, so opened up the window and hoped for the best. It wasn't any better in the morning. When I took a shower, I was standing in water above ankle deep as it was not draining out of the tub properly. Thankfully when my husband appraised the general manager, Joel, of the situation, Joel apologized for the condition of the room. He said it should never have been sold in that condition & that although the hotel is scheduled for a renovation soon, that is no excuse for putting us in that room now. He gave us another room for our 2nd night's stay & deducted $50 from our charges. The new room smelled okay, there were no black spots in the bathroom & the tub drained fine. However it was irritating that the bathroom door could not be opened all the way as the toilet obstructs it. Also we could hear a lot of movement in the room above us. If a hotel is going to take the name of Holiday Inn Express, they need to live up to the reputation.
