“Excellent”

Eagle Inn

17 Mar 2008

We found The Eagle Inn at the Santa Barbara Visitors' Centre and stayed there twice in February 2008,during our travels up the west coast - 3 nights, then 2 nights. Twice, because we liked it so much!
The rooms are very comfortable well decorated and and a good size. The beds were very comfortable. There are twin queen or single king choices. The bathroom was a comfortable size and well designed. The continental breakfast, including fresh fuit was very good and well catered. The breakfast room is also very welcoming.
The position of the Inn is very convenient and confortable walking
- just 10 minutes walk to State Street, the main shopping area,15 minutes walk to the wharf and 5 minutes walk to the sea front. The address is in a quite street 9no traffic noise) and there is ample and convenient parking in the grounds.
The management and staff are very cordial and helpful without hesitation and gave us helpful advice on where to go, eating venues, and general facilities.
This is the 4th time we visited Santa Barbara and without hesitation the Eagle Inn is the most comfortable place and value for money we have stayed at.
We WILL stay there again.

I found this inn here at TripAdvisor and I booked directly with the property. I used to live in Santa Barbara, so I was familiar with the location, and since I was arriving by train and wouldn't have a car, the closeness to the train station was a big plus. It is only a 10 minute walk, close enough to be very handy, but not so close that the trains bothered me at night.

Most of the reviews here are for the higher end rooms, so hopefully my "lower end" room review will be helpful. I had a queen room on the ground floor. It was very clean and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable, the tv was a good size with lots of channels to choose from plus a DVD player, there was a small fridge (and freezer) plus a microwave and coffee maker. The ceiling fan was a big plus as it was fairly warm and the room was a little stuffy. Although the room wasn't very big, it was just fine for a single. Since there is so much to do in Santa Barbara you won't want to spend a lot of time in your room anyway.

As others have commented here, the breakfast is good and there is plenty to eat. Both mornings the food was replenished regularly - there was fresh fruit, bagels/pastries, cereal, yogurt, juice, coffee and tea. The breakfast room also has a computer to use if you like.

The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the fresh baked cookies at night were a nice touch. For those traveling by car there is a lot which is important since there are parking restrictions on the streets around the property on the weekend. That's because it is a residential neighborhood (nice and quiet) but close to the beach (very handy).

If you're looking for a property that has a pool or spa, this isn't the one to book. But if you're looking for a very nice property, well situated and a good value for the area, this is a find. I would definitely stay here again.

“Nice place”

Only stayed 1 night in Santa Barbara and this hotel was in a very good location. Just a few minutes walk to the train station, 5 mins to the main shopping area, and a few mins to the beach/pier.
I was initially concerned the rooms may be too 'fussy' for my liking after veiwing the photo's on the website, but our room was in fact very nicley furnished and decorated. Also included a fridge which was handy. Breakfast of fruit, cereal, pastries etc was very goodand you could eat as much as you like. The hotel is in a nice quiet street, so no concerns about road noise.
We paid $104 (inc taxes) for a queen room (with breakfast) as a late deal (try searching on the hotel website under 'specials'.
I would definitely recommend this hotel, and would stay there again.

The hotel is in a great location a few blocks from the beach and a block from some great neighborhood pubs. We stayed in a room with a whirlpool and it was extremely relaxing. Can't think of anything that could have been improved. We had a fantastic stay. Try Brophy Brothers for some great seafood that is reasonably priced!

If you're looking for an easy going well kept Inn then this is the place for you. The Inn Keeper had fantastic local knowledge. He was aware of the perfect little neighborhood bar to the finest dining experience in the city. If you want to know which beach to surf or what SCUBA dive boat will fit your needs he seemed to have just the right fit for my girlfriend and me.

The Inn was quiet and very comfortable with just enough distance from tourist areas to maintain a feeling like you were actually staying at a friends house in a local neighborhood.

We loved the fireplace and jacuzzi tub!
