My Fiance and I stayed at the Old Yacht Club this past weekend and it was "OK."
The inn is located on a quiet street near the beach, but you do not have an ocean view. Unless you like to walk a lot, downtown is about 2-3 miles away. It is near the railroad tracks, but I didn't hear any train noise after 10pm. My Fiance did not hear anything either and he's a light sleeper.
On the outside, the property looks well kept. The inside looked old, but it was clean and neat. The innkeeper had cookies out, fresh coffee, tea and water. On the right side is a sitting area for guest to relax, socialize and read the newspaper/magazines. The left side was the dinning area. There is free wireless and I was able to use it in my room. Apparently, the other house might not have access to the connection. The innkeeper was pleasant, but a little strange. Not in a bad way...kinda reminded me a flower child hippie type.
We stayed in the Captain's Corner...the only room on the main floor. I don't recommend this room if you're looking for peace and quiet. If people are socializing in the sitting/dinning area, you hear everything. Sometimes, people are really loud and it sucks...especially if you're trying to take a nap. We didn't like the bed. It was too hard and it seemed like they put two twin beds together to make it a king size bed. The sink area is really small...probably the original. There is no tub in this room and the towels suck. The ones that were there had ripples and it was too rough. Bring your own iron, hairdryer and toiletries. Overall the room was basic, clean and neat...something I would say about a Motel 6. It has a private entrance which is nice if you don't like going through the house.
The breakfast is decent, but my Fiance did not like it. He has stayed at many B&Bs and the food here didn't compare. If you are on a special diet, be sure to ask the innkeeper if they accommodate before booking. Breakfast is served betweened 8:30-9:30am and that didn't work well for me. I'm not a morning person. I can understand not serving a full meal all morning, but put some fruit, granola bars and muffins out for those who drag in the morning.
If you are a wine person, you will be disappointed with the wine hour. They offered Chardonnay and crackers...we didn't see any cheese. There is a Trade Joe's close by and we bought our own stuff.
I think the innkeeper charges too much for what is offered. If you have never stayed at a B&B or if you have high expectations, this is not the place. Would I personally stay here again? No.
Side note: Some weird things were happening in my room during the night. When I stay at a hotel, I sleep with the bathroom light on and the door cracked about 5-6 inches. When I was surfing the net, the door closed. I didn't see it move or hear it shut, but I thought I left the bathroom window opened and the wind caused the door to close. I checked the bathroom and the window was open, so I closed the window and got back on my computer. Maybe 30 mintues later I looked up and the bathroom door was closed. It felt a little creepy, but I went to bed. The next morning my Fiance told me that I forgot to close the bathroom window that night and it was really cold in there. I told him I did close it and the ghost probably opened it just like it kept closing the bathroom door...LOL! The same thing happened the second night and that morning, the lights started flickering. Who knows, it's an old house, but I thought I would share that experience.
