Save your money and go to Brisas del Mar across the street. The Avania was such a disappointment. When we arrived, I asked to see the room. Carpet in hall way dirty. Continental breakfast area was dirty and not well kept. Large dumpsters in parking lot. The photo's seen on the internet are from previous owners. The rooms are dark and ugly. The clerk came out from a room with housekeepers eating and lunch on front of her tee shirt. Rooms were dark and ugly. Santa Barbara has too many nice places to stay.

We stayed at Country Inn by the Sea a couple of years ago and we were very happy. The hotel has now changed hands to Avania Inn and all we can say is STAY AWAY!!! The continental breakfast was awful and very limited. Our view was a huge blue dumpster with the old furniture/garbage piled all over. The ice makers in the halls were empty and filled with garbage. We had to go to an ice maker at the pool (next to the one and only soda machine that was out of order). The staff was not friendly nor helpful. Even the housecleaning was poor. Although the carpet and furniture were new the rest of the hotel was very dirty!

Booked this room cause needed one night stay on weekend, referred by another hotel. Checked in and took one look at room and left. The elevator floor is a piece of plywood. The carpet is old smelly and stained The room number is wriitten on a piece of paper and duct taped to the wall. Room was actually under construction with wall in bathroom not finished. They must be getting complaints because when I went back to the desk and said we were leaving they refunded the money without my asking. That is the only good thing I can say about the experience. If you get stuck for one night and can't find anything try Goleta or Solvang but do not stay at this hotel for any reason.

There is Construction going on here. They should shut down. When we checked in I asked about all the trucks. They said, NO CONSTRUCTION, only painting. Another couple who were already checked in, asked about "when will the water come back on?" (He said, at 5pm). Before 9am there were painters talking and laughing loudly on our balcony. At 10 am there was a JACKHAMMER, that proceeded until 4pm that day. We took a walk, but no way to relax after a drove from So.Calif. They are new owners. We stayed here many times before and it was delightful, but this was horrible. When we check out after two nights we asked for a discount due to all the noise, lack of water, etc. 10% was all we got!!! We told them that was not enough and that we were very disappointed!!! No answer. DO" NOT STAY HERE! Discourteous.
