I stayed for two nights and they were uneventful enough for me. A nice room with balcony overlooking a park and a beautiful beach. The bathroom (i.e. tub) may be due for a make over in a year or two but over all the room was fine.
The hotel is big and very much spread out among several buildings. Try to get a room that is in the central building otherwise it might be a hike to the restaurants and lobby.
I didn't visit the pool so I can't comment.
The hotel is a short drive to State St. the center of all the action in Santa Barbara. The staff was knowledgable on the area, as they were all locals.
Overall a clean room and comfortable bed not too expensive either. Worked for me.

We stayed at the Fess Parker Santa Barbara Resort for our wedding in March 2007, even though the actual wedding was held off-site. I am from the area, even though we live in DC now. I had eaten there a few times so I thought it might be a good place. First of all, I had to call over ten times when asking about wedding and dining prices; they kept saying "Can I call you back?" and never did. Then, when we arrived and told them it was our wedding trip, they did not give us any free-be or anything special. Furthermore, I hated being awakened twice in the middle of the night by a very loud train that goes right past the hotel. Second, they have a doggie seciton; my husband is an attorney, and hates dogs. Also, I was thinking of getting my hair done for the wedding, but they were so rude and upset for some reason, I did my own hair on my wedding day. Also, when we took a tour of the Fess Parker Wine Country, and walked in for wine tasting, we were standing around looking, when an unknown staff member just walked up to us out of the blue and said, "We don't have to serve you." We walked out. We will be returning to Santa Barbara some day, but will definitely not be staying at the Fess Parker Resort..

Fabulous!! This is the only way to describe our stay at this resort. This resort offers everything you could need for a great vacation. Great location, your right across the street from the beach, only a short walk to the wharf and State St (loads of great shopping) this city offers many great options for dining. The cities wonderful Mission and many adobe buildings are just beautiful and are not to be missed. Your close enough if you want to visit Solvang or go Wine Tasting. I really don't know what all the complaints about the train are all about, the beds are so comfortable we slept like babies and never heard the trains at night. The staff here is just great, checking in and out was a breeze, the warm cookies delicious. The only complaint we have is that we won't be back soon enough.

Stayed over Easter holiday. Overall the amenities of the resort were nice. Also felt the staff was very accomodating. However, room was very "smoky" although we asked for non-smoking. Also paid for a "resort view" which turned out to be a retaining wall. Felt more like a 3 rather than 5 star resort.
