We went on a family trip to Santa Barbara for my parents' anniversary on January 2, 2006 for 2 nights. After a lot of online research, I chose Harbor View Inn because of the reviews and the prices, which were considerably less than the offered online prices (we called the hotel). But, like other travelers, I was still concerned about the hotel even after reading the other reviews.
When we got to the hotel, the desk staff politely greeted us. The young lady who checked us into our two rooms (one standard and the other with a pool view) was polite and even sent up a complimentary bottle of champagne for my parents’ special day. The pool view room, my parents’ room, had a high ceiling with a nice balcony that had some ocean view, a comfortable king size bed, and a lovely mosaic tiled bathroom with separate shower and bath. The room and bathroom were clean, which was such a relief. The room also offered its guests complimentary bottled water, pistachios, and coffee. The standard room looked similar to the pool view room except for the high ceiling, view, which was of an alley but masked by trees, and beds, two queen size. We loved the blackout drapes: my brother, his girlfriend/fiancé, and I slept peacefully until 11:00 a.m. each morning.
It was a wonderful stay except for the construction going on near the hotel (seems like construction of an extension to the hotel). Although we (from the standard room) did not hear any of the construction noises (the only noises were a loud bang on the wall and some faint voices), my parents in the pool view room were disturbed by the construction going on outside. The construction began around 11:00 a.m. on the second day and at 9:00 a.m. on the third day, which woke my parents. It was loud and caused the area of the hotel near it to shake. But, when we checked out, we informed the young man about the shaking and noise, and he took a bit off our room bill.
Overall, the trip was a great stay: the staff and rooms were great. We would come again.
