“Good one night stop-over”

We stopped over in Santa Barbara for one night on our way down the coast. We drove up to this hotel and booked the last room they had. It was smoking but to be honest didn't smell too strongly. It lost a star for me as I felt the price was a little high as they knew other hotels in the area were fully booked.

The room was very clean and comfortable. It had a large bedroom area and a small bathroom with extra room outside at the sink. They have free wireless and cable TV and ample parking. The air conditioning was great. Breakfast was continental and had a good choice. There is a nice place for pizza over the road.

We didn't venture into Santa Barbara so I cannot comment on it's location. It seemed a very safe hotel in a reasonably nice area and we had no problem with noise despite being on the ground floor. There was also a hen party staying at the hotel which we heard no noise from. The reception area was really nice and the staff were very very helpful.

Overall a very nice hotel.

“Bargain last minute booking”

Booked at last minute as we only decied to stay the day before but it was a real bargain, $120 for a room with seperate bedroom and 2 bathrooms which was used by 5 of us on a weekday.
I was not expecting anything special for that price but all was ok. We didn't spend too much time in the room but seemed clean enough. We checked out SB in the morning and
were a few minutes late checking out and the reception guy was about to charge us for an extra night but in the end he didnt so be careful as I believe it is a 10am or 11am checkout (we were getting used to midday checkouts).

TV, radio etc was all good, bathroom was fine but this is not an expensive classy joint so don't expect anything luxurious.
There are many similar hotels on this strecth of State St and a good bus service straight to the beach, shops, bars etc.

Breakfast was fairly basic but there are many restaurants/supermarkets in the area if you want something else.
For a road trip type hotel where you don't spend too much time in the room I'd recomemnd this provinding you can get a good rate.
From what I've read it may be best to avoid at weekends if you don't want people partying in the room next to you!

“A Bargain at the last minute”

We were pleasantly surprised with our experience at the Sandpiper Lodge. We were in town and needed a room at the last-minute. There was an opening and we took it. The office staff was both friendly and helpful and the room was very clean (important to us) and neat. It was a bargain for a late Saturday night opening which is hard to get in the SB area.

“Noisy, poor customer service”

Sandpiper Lodge

20 Jan 2008

The place looks nice. The room looked nice, but had an unpleasant smell.
There was a lot of noise coming from the parking lot all night.
People were partying, slamming doors, and running around like on a kids camp.
We called the office around midnight and asked if this was considered "acceptable". They promised to "check it out". Well, nothing changed and we did not fall asleep until 4.30 AM.

We complained about this the next morning. We asked for at least a discount since we did not get what we paid for; REST. The employee answered that he had no authority to discount us. His manager was not there and besides, since we made the reservation on line, it was out of their hands . We consider this very unprofessional. And now have to address our complain to hotel.com and ..........arhhh!.

How convenient for The Sandpiper Lodge and other hotels and motels. And how bad for all of us who rely on an apparently non-existing professionalism.
