I booked this hotel by accident via my corporate travel website. I confused it with the colonial beach inn, which is a decent value in SB. When I got there, there was no parking available on property save 2 spaces in the back through a passthrough with no room to turn around a car. I asked at the front desk & was advised to park on the street "things will thin out soon" - I guess I am supposed to circle the block until things thin out. I was "upgraded" to a king room, and when I saw the room - holes in the baseboard, a mattress so worn that you roll to the center, I turned around & told the front desk clerk that the accomodations were unacceptable & that I could not check in. They charged me for the night, and I wound up staying at the Best Western across town. (decent place, at least I slept). STAY AWAY from this fleabag !

We just got back from the Costal Village Inn and I have mixed feeling. For the price we paid $79 dollars a night it was fine. This was on a Sunday and Monday the weekend of Martin Luther King Day.

The Location
The inn is located in the village of Montecito, a wealthy outlying area of Santa Barbara (Opra lives here and John Travolta too). In the village are many fine restaurants for all tastes a grocery store and many boutiques. It is only a short hop on the Freeway to downtown Santa Barbara. it has a partial view of the ocean.

The Inn
The Costal Village Inn could definately use some sprucing up! there were cracked and peeling walls in our room along with missing baseboards. The bathroom was small but adequate. We did not have a hairdryer. Our room was also on the small side but adequate for the two of us. Our bed was cofomfortable, but the headboard was so loose that any movement made it bang loudly against the wall. We finally placed a pillow between it and the wall. There was alot of noise, especially when people walked by, the floors were very creaky.

The Restaurant
The restaurant is a quaint little place with average food. The continental breakfast you get for free is adequate, the croissants were quite good. If you order a regular breakfast they will discount your meal by the amount of the voucher .

Summary
If you are on a serious budget, this is a very good deal in Santa Barbara.Yes, there are some flaws, and with a little work this could be a really, really great place. I prefer other places in Santa Barbara but I would stay here again if needed.

“How Bad Could it Be?”

After we booked this hotel as part of a central California vacation, we checked some of the feedback from Tripadvisor, and we were extremely worried about the negative feedback this hotel received. After a brief discussion we agreed not to cancel this hotel despite the fact our better instincts told us otherwise. How bad could it be, we thought? Big Mistake. All the negative reviews were spot on. The Coast Village Inn was absolutely the most uncomfortable hotel room both my wife and I have ever stayed in. It was a total nightmare...and it almost ruined our vacation. Thank God our other accommodations didn't have any of these problems: No air conditioning, no ventilation, a horrible bed, and to top it off, a bathroom so small we could not fit on the toilet. Neither my wife or I are large people by any means, but we still could not use the bathroom. We were forced to used the gas station down the street....and I even slept on the floor because it was far more comfortable than that bed. And leaving the window open to breath made it impossible to sleep with the highway and the trains going all night. And the hotel staff was no where to be found when we tried to check out!!! If you choose this hotel, I guarantee you will regret it.

I concur with Cabocurt review. The location is great, the personnel are friendly and helpful, but the prices are excessive for what you get - old rooms and bathroom facilities, under-average comfortable beds, less than comfortable feeling of cleanliness. The registration office is embarrassing, its like a cheap two-bit hollywood motel. When I stayed there in 1996 the prices were reasonable at $49. They should not be more than $75 now or really modernize the entire facility.

Property in excellent location. Management/staff friendly and helpful. Free bikes a huge plus.Nice little continental breakfast at restaurant next door. The rooms are OVERPRICED by 50 to 100 dollars. If the owners charged the correct prices.. 75.00 a nite instead of 129.00 to 199.00 there would be few if any complaints on this site. In this instance you DO NOT get what you pay for. Unfortunately this place could have everything going for it, but receives a 1star rating because of age, room size and condition... location can't overcome these factors.
