The Santa Monica Beach Travelodge is in a wonderful location--but that's the only reason they can charge up to $200 for a room. The rooms are tiny and not up to date (though the carpet was clean and newer than the rest of the furnishings). The bathrooms are shabby and minimally equipped, with thin towels. The room smelled bad when we arrived, so we had to leave a window open for hours (the odor may have been an overly powerful air freshener, not sure). Parking cost $10 a day extra (not obvious on the hotel web site). Breakfast was a mere snack, a muffin and coffee from an urn on a side table in the tiny office (though there are coffee makers in each room). The evening clerk verged on rude, but the morning clerk was friendly.

Overall, the stay was acceptable because of the location, but just barely. If your budget will allow it, stay in another hotel and enjoy yourself more!

Wow, $200 a night for this?

I would not have chosen this motel had I been driving by, but I had a last minute business trip to Santa Monica and the company travel agent couldn't find anything else available.

The shower stall floor was a thin piece of plastic somewhat glued down over the floor. It was curling up at the edges and you could see the mold.

The paint in the bathroom was peeling.

The bathroom fan didn't work.

The tiles in the shower stall had been resurfaced and was peeling.

The room smelled of disinfectant, but it could not cover the smell of the mold.

The TV hutch would have fit a 30" TV but they did their darnedest to squeeze in a 20".

The furniture was well past its prime, the chairs were sagging and stained.

And if you are lucky enough to have a view, you'll get to see the scores of homeless sleeping on the park benches across the street.

I understand this is a franchise, but Travelodge obviously is lacking in any standards to use their name.

This hotel is a disgrace. The rooms are dirty and badly in need of repairs. The shower floor was covered with vinyl to hide the dirty and broken tiles, the soap holder was broken, the fan was missing and the hole were it used to be was black with dirt. The parking lot is so small that some cars prevent other cards from getting out. All this at an outrageous price. The breakfast area consist of one shelf in the front are with coffee, (cheap) muffins and orange juice? Clients were so mad that we almost had a riot at checkout time.

We stayed in the Santa Monica Beach Travelodge and it was not worth the high price they charged. Its awful from the outside, the pool is frightening, if it was half the price yes I would say stay here as a last resort,the shower was clean and so were the sheets and the air. con. was good but overall very tacky, we booked it without seeing it and could not find any other accom. so beware. This just proves cheap is not always the worst. We got a lovely Hotel in San F for half the price of this one.
