I want to write a fair review, so I'll include the good and the bad. The bad: I asked for a second floor room because other reviews had said that the walls were thin and noise was worse on the ground floor. When I checked in, I was offered room 154. I didn't want a ground floor and tried to get one of the higher floors. The front desk clerk, who was nice, tried but found nothing available. Check in time was 3 pm which came and went. My room still hadn't been cleaned. I was tired and just wanted to get into the room. About 3:15 the desk clerk said they moved some people out of a second floor room so I could have it. He apologized for the room not being cleaned on time. In all my years of staying in hotels, I've never had a room not ready within a few minutes of check in time. My room on the second floor overlooked the pool, which appeared fairly clean. I was there unfortunately when the big fires broke out in CA so the pool became very dirty fast - not the fault of the hotel of course. Anyway, the room itself was not all that clean. There was dust along the baseboards. I wanted to get my vacuum cleaner and a can of Comet and do the job right. The bathroom door was scuffed up with black marks which could easily have been wiped off. UGH. I also noted that there were no cupboards or drawers in the bathroom, so all my stuff had to be put all over the top of the vanity. The shower worked okay, as did the tub and the toilet, so at least mechanically things were functional. The coffeemaker was on the bathroom vanity - a rather inconvenient and messy place, instead of near the fridge or microwave. I kept being afraid of splashing water near the coffeemaker plug. Just not a good place for it. There were some stains on the rug. The first towel I used had three holes in it. Unreal. I have never been in any hotel in my life that had holes in the towels. Not even the most budget hotel. As I walked down the hallway to my room, several of the rooms in my area were being totally renovated. I had to walk over painting supplies and other equipment - not very pleasant. So, be aware of the renovations continuing to go on at this hotel. Fortunately there was no noise generated by the work they were doing, maybe an occasional banging sound.
As far as noise and thin walls..........well, folks, I can attest to that. The people in the room next door were having loud sex (sorry to be graphic, but that's the only way I can say it). Again, I have stayed in lots of hotels and never encountered hearing a guest having sex. It went on for an hour and finally stopped. I didn't report it to the manager because I didn't want to get involved in reporting such a thing. I was there for 8 days so had plenty of time to experience various things while there. I could hear other guests quite easily who were in the room next door. I do think it's a problem with the thinness of the walls.
When the fires broke out in CA, I think a lot of guests checked out or cancelled reservations, so the hotel was probably lots quieter than ordinarily it would have been. I dread to think what it sounds like at the height of the summer travel season, with kids and families in and out, partying at the bar, etc. I wouldn't want to stay there during peak travel time.
The quilt on the bed was very worn. They need to update their bedding. The room had a sofa which was dirty (ugh). There were random sofas in the hallways, probably in the process of being cleaned or moved, whatever. There was a desk and chair. There were no drapes - only blinds. There are pics of the blinds at their site. The blinds did a fair job of keeping light out, but if you're the type who wants a totally dark room for sleeping, you might not like the blinds. I've never been in a hotel that didn't have heavy drapes that closed and shut out light and noise. This wasn't a big problem, but I just wanted to mention the lack of drapes.
The good: the microwave and fridge both worked well. All the lights worked. The hairdryer worked. The coffeemaker worked.
I used the iron and ironing board. The iron was a little weird and leaked water, so I tried to be careful with that. but at least there was one available. I ordered room service several times. The food was very good, although very pricey ($10 for a hamburger). But the servings were huge (at least for me) so I split it in half and put it in the fridge for the next day. Food was delivered in a timely manner and well presented. But $4.00 for a muffin is ridiculous, so most people probably will make other arrangements unless they want the luxury of room service.
I used the spa twice, which was rather small and quite hot at 104 degrees. The staff did a good job of cleaning up the pool after the winds/fires calmed down. I would have liked a bit more info from the staff about the fires, perhaps calling guests and alerting them to possible evacuation plans, but maybe they didn't want to unnecessarily scare the guests. I just felt like they should have made some type of announcement or given better updates about things. There were two power outages due to the winds or fires while I was there. The icemaker nearest my room was out of order so I had to walk quite a way to the next one and the vending machine which had sodas. They had a small gift shop with candy and other travel items which was nice. (very overpriced tho). They also have free in-room internet access and I used a laptop while there with no problems.
All in all, I wouldn't recommend staying here for more than a night or two. This could be a very nice hotel once they get their renovations done, but at this point, there's problems.
But then again, their prices will be much higher when things are fixed, so it's a trade off. If you can put up with some of the things I've mentioned and it fits your budget and travel plans then maybe it's the best choice for you. I hope I've given a fair and honest review. I left a comment card in the room about the holes in the towel. Because of the fires, I was focused more on that than the room so I didn't complain about anything directly to the staff while there. If things had been normal (no fires), I would have said something about these problems and I intend to write a letter to the management and point out these issues. They should be honest at their website and at least mention the ongoing renovation but I guess they know people wouldn't book a room if they knew that. Also, when I was there, there was no complimentary breakfast buffet. I asked about breakfast coupons and was told they don't do that. So, there was no free breakfast. You can pay $7.95 for a continental breakfast. Good luck with your stay if you decide to choose this place!
