On our third night in Solvang (see separate review of that town) we went to Cabernet Bistro. We wanted something other than steak and the menu promised a French dining experience.
The bistro is set in one of the small courtyard malls that characterize Solvang - and on the second floor, not the easiest place to find.
First, let's admit that we didn't expect a high-atmosphere, proper full French restaurant on a Wednesday evening in a small California town and in that sense we were not disappointed. There were only three other groups of diners and another group, who transpired to be Dutch arrived shortly after we had been seated.
Service was quick, efficient and pleasant. With so few diners more than half of whom were European a friendly rapport was established between tables. Jacques the patron/ owner circulated among the tables at the end of the service.
We had a good dinner and good wine, well presented. I'm not going to go into what we ate as it is of little relevance other than to us and most folks can't be bothered to read it anyway.
What you want to know is . was it good? - answer 'yes, definitely'
Was it good vfm? Yes, not cheap, but good food well cooked.
And since were last to leave and our party included a French speaker we were invited to the kitchens to see how Jacques prepares duck.
You have to be confident of your establishment to do that.
Recommended? Absolutely.
