We were in the Gold Country to attend a wedding and even though normal check in time is 3:00 pm, we were allowed to check in at 12:30 so we could freshen up and get to the wedding by 3:30. We were given a top floor corner room in the historic section of the hotel and it was VERY comfortable and charming and surprisingly quiet. Our only complaint was the lack of plug-ins in the bathroom; a quirk to be excused in a building dating back to the gold rush days. We will definitely stay there again if we're in the area!

“Nice Staff - Nasty Smell”

There are only two positive things about this hotel - the location (in the center of old town Sonora in the heart of lovely Gold Country) and the very helpful and friendly staff.
The bright and smart lobby area totally belies the fact that the rooms are REALLY horrible. The carpets were dirty and smelly, the decor very ugly, beds uncomfortable, tv didn't work properly and, worst of all, it was absolutely freezing cold with only a very old fashioned extremely noisy and smelly air heater machine thing providing any warmth. The arctic bathroom was dirty and the fixtures and fittings cracked and badly stained with age. This is the third Days Inn I've stayed in and I've noticed that they all have a particular horrible odor in common - it must be the cleaning detergent they use or something. It makes all the rooms smell like public lavatories. Yuk!

I do apologize for any odors in our historic building. Unfortunatly, a building as old as this wil sometimes give off a musty smell, especially in the winter. Since Feb 07, we have made great improvements with both the historic building and the annex (building directly behind the historic). And we have many future plans in the making. The old "Sonora Inn" is expecting a face lift and a major overhaul indoors!

The hotel portion of this property had some historic charm, but the motel part across the street was just plain old and run down. We paid way too much to stay in this dump. The carpet felt like it was put in right over dirt because it had so many lumps and bumps in it. Not to mention the fact that the whole room slanted downhill so much that one bed was six inches higher than the other.

The furniture and fixtures were extremely old and grubby. The bathroom faucet leaked and the shower stall was extremely small. The TV reception faded in and out and the beds were cheap and uncomfortable.

We accidently left a blanket in the room and of course it was "not found." I have paid less for motels much nicer than this one. Stay at one of the hotels right down the street.

We arrived on a Sunday evening and stayed for one night. We were on our way to San Fransisco from Yosemite. The beds were ok, the aircondition was really loud. The bathroom was dirty. Breakfast were included...but I could have been without it. The area did not feel safe.

“Charming Gold Town Hotel”

Days Inn - Sonora

We stayed in the main building on the second floor. My daughter loved the "old style" elevator with an extra wide wooden door. The room was clean and up to date. The bathroom had old style fixtures but again was very clean. The only problem was the water did change to very hot in the middle of my husband's shower! (old building plumbing issues). We stayed on a Wednesday night and breakfast was included the next day. We ate at a great pizza palor about a block away in a shopping plaza. We just dipped our feet in the pool. It was a roof top pool and was very nice. I don't know what the rooms in the annex were like. The building did not appear as well kept as the main building. The town is very nice. I would love to go back!

We also went to Columbia State Park which is only a couple miles away. It is worth the visit. Most everything was closed when we got there but it was still great. Stop in at the Saint Charles Saloon and talk to a local by the name of "Peanut Pete". Tell him the family he met from Pennsylvania this summer told you to stop in. He is quite friendly and loves to talk while you drink a Sarasparilla Soda!
