The Basque Cultural Center in South San Francisco is conveniently close to the SF airport, so when a client's flight was delayed for hours---and we both were hungry---we made an unplanned dinner stop there. The Tuesday night crowd was not as large or noisy as on weekends, but the reasonably priced food was even better. The lamb "steak" was perfectly cooked, and nicely marinated in wine and herbs. A dinner salad and soup come with all entrees, and both were excellent. A lemony vinaigrette made the salad memorable and the pureed spinach soup was flavorful and expertly seasoned. Great for a cold winter's evening. This is exactly the same kind of simple bistro French food you find all over rural France. Adjacent to the restaurant is a very large 'pelota" (or Basque handball) court, and it is fun to watch the game being played on your way into or out of the restaurant.
