Arroyo's was once the most popular Mexican restaurant in Stockton's city center. It drew a big luncheon crowd, notably from the near-by courthouse.
Then the city fathers and mothers exercised the right of eminent domain and forced the restaurant out of business -- to be replaced by a gas station and a fast food joint. They called it urban redevelopment.
Arroyo's moved to an upscale north Stockton location. Its new facility is larger -- but more sterile. The food has also lost some its flavor. Still, it's the best Stockton has to offer. Servings are large and -- with enough Tabasco or the restaurant's own hot sauce -- can be quite tasty.
Prices will please anyone on a strict budget.
