I'd read a lot of mixed reviews for this hotel, so I quite frankly didn't know what to expect. I chose the hotel because of location, price, size and the decor I saw on their website.
I'll start at the beginning. The hotel is located in a quiet nook of a neighborhood, which is still in the heart of it all--Sunset Blvd is walking distance, La Cienega is a stone's throw away and so is Beverly Hills, etc. Driving down the street on which the hotel sits, I was pleasantly surprised to find cute homes, lots of trees and a lovely circular flower bed at the circular intersection (hard to describe, but a truly lovely touch to the neighborhood.)
Pulling into the parking garage, I was immediately greeted by an attendant, who had a list of guests checking in. The car drop-off was quick and efficient. I was given a one-time ticket for the week. Check in was a breeze; the front desk staff was pleasant; I was always addressed by name, etc.
My room turned out to be amazing. At check-in I politely requested something with a view perhaps, and my request was met. My room faced the pretty street, Westmount, was on the 3rd floor and was pleasantly shielded by a large tree. The size of the room was enormous--around 500 sq ft. I guess it was their king studio room. It was $215 a night--which is not cheap--however, for the square footage and location I think it was a great deal. The room was very nicely appointed. There was a separated sleeping area; the sitting area had a sofa and chair, both super-comfortable. There was a large dresser/console with the flat-screen TV on top. There was an office area with a huge desk and comfortable chair. Not to mention the gas fireplace and balcony. If it sounds like I'm raving about this hotel--I really did love it. I don't know if I just got a good room, but I was just very pleased. The bed was wonderful; I slept very well. There was a separate dressing area next to the bathroom.
Everything just felt spacious and well-kept. I stayed there for 5 nights and felt totally comfortable at all times. In fact, I was sad to leave. The staff were super-nice. Getting your car out was easy. I had two meetings each day I was there, and I was constantly pulling in and out of the garage. I never had to wait for my car. This is one major advantage to staying in a smaller hotel.
There's also a kick-ass roof-top pool. I didn't swim in it, but I did hang out in this huge cabana with cushy seats, looking out at the gorgeous LA view. A total pleasure after a stressful day.
I did experience a couple of quirks with the internet connection. It wasn't a big deal, but they took off my charges for the entire week, which I thought was super-nice of them. I really felt like they truly accommodated the guests. I personally liked the decor. It's tasteful and understated (the guy who decorated the hotel is the protege of designer Kelly Whistler--who is a major interior design figure.)
I would definitely stay here again. I thought it was a great deal. Nice toiletries too (Molton Brown.) I would recommend it to anybody. Book a king studio, ask for a room facing Westmount and a higher floor, and you should be all set.
