They've taken a Holiday Inn and turned it into a Crowne Plaza. It would be more accurate to say they're turning it into a Crowne Plaza, because it's not at that level yet.
We stayed here for four nights for work during a recent major sports event in Denver. The accommodations were fine if unspectacular. Overall the place still seemed a lot more like a Holiday Inn than a Crowne Plaza. Upscale furniture in the lobby does not justify nearly $200 a night for average accommodations.
Some of the public areas (the elevators especially) seemed shabby -- peeling paint, missing trim, loose screws, etc. -- and the apparent lack of a service elevator meant constantly sharing a cramped space with laundry carts and housekeeping staff while riding to and from our room.
The location is good for downtown shopping, restaurants and events -- close to the 16th Street Mall and a short ride from Pepsi Center and LoDo.
The staff was friendly and helpful, and the concierge lounge on our floor was a nice touch, but overall, it was a stretch to call this a luxury hotel. The transition from Holiday Inn to Crowne Plaza still needs some work.
