“Not a fan”

Magnolia Hotel Denver

16 Jun 2008

The problem we had was at the very end but quite negative. The valets broke some glassware we had set aside as 'fragile' and were utterly worthless in their handling of said fragile contents. Broken glass and ruined clothes were the result. No reply from management to my follow up so i'd not recommend this hotel. In all fairness the room was nice but so are the rooms in most hotels.

Stayed at this Hotel for 3 nights! Service was excellent and staff was great! Room was so posh and nice! Bathroom even better, with great shampo and lotions. Also included is free morning meal, evening cookies and milk, free glass of wine or beer.
Hotel has the best location possible in downtown Denver.
It is also very nice to sit and have a drink in the Hotel bar called Harrys Bar. Ask for Brandon or Christina to serve you , two very nice and great people.
Love this hotel and all about it!

our stay at the Magnolia was eccelent. The room very clean and nice for a good rate. The locaton just perfect one block from the 16th with shops and restaurants. Yes you can hear the traffic but that's normal at a down town locaton. I will be back at the Magnolia.

I travel regularly on business and recently stayed at the Magnolia. Unfortunately I'm not inclined to stay there again. Too bad because the place has such potential to be a really great hotel, but they need to work out some problems.

On the positive side: The room was recently redone and it was very comfortable. Large, spacious, clean. It was a suite and came with a small fridge, microwave and sink. So it was definitely a "home away from home."

The concierge was great as were the doormen -- very helpful, friendly and courteous.

On the negative side:
1. Room service. Menu is very limited. Service was unprofessional. I ordered 3 meals during my stay. Each time either something was missing, or the order was wrong altogether (e.g., I ordered the roast chicken and got fried instead!).
2. No hotel guide in the room. I always want to see info on whether there is a business center or health club. No info on that. You are forced to inquire.
3. Poor follow-up on item I left behind: I left behind an expensive hair iron. I called the day after I got home and they said they'd check on it and call me back. Two days later -- no call. I called back again and discussed it with a new person. She said she'd have housekeeping search the room thoroughly and call me back. Two days later -- no call. I call back THIRD TIME! Nope, they couldn't find it. Sorry.
4. Street noise. The room I was in was very noisy with buses, trucks and trains all through the night. Not a restful night's sleep.

Having been to Denver several times now, I recommend the Grand Hyatt instead. They run their hotel much more professionally.

I stayed at the Magnolia for 2 nights of a 4 night stay in Denver (the last 2 nights of my stay, the Magnolia was sold out). I was in town for a conference at the convention center. The hotel has a good location for exploring LoDo---within walking distance of everything downtown had two offer. I had a king room--which was nicely furnished and included a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was stocked with high-end soaps, shampoos and conditioners (I was really impressed by the size of the hair products, 2.5 oz, which is huge compared to the tiny bottles you tend to find at hotels. The free wifi was reliable and fast. The fitness room was really nice--lots of space, complete set of free weights, and each free standing machine had its personal television you could adjust (great idea). I thought the free breakfast was fine and the free milk and cookies service was excellent. The next time I have to be in downtown Denver, business or leisure, I'm definitely staying at the Magnolia.
