We had passed through Ouray once before and stayed a night in town, but it was not until the second time that we visited that we found that it was most memorable. We decided to book our first stay in a bed and breakfast at the Black Bear Manor, this turned out to be probably the best travel decision that we have ever made. The beauty of Ouray and the hospitality of Phil and Lucie at the Black Bear manor have created an official destination that we will continue to return to time and time again.
Phil and Lucie have created a phenomenal experience here. They are not just some hotel managers that you check in and you are a number. You are a guest in thier home and they will treat you like nothing else. Lucie will be up hours before you cooking up a spread of breakfast items that incorporates any eating lifestyle or demand. We ate at the Hilton for breakfast the morning before and it might as well have been McDonald's compared to Lucie's homecooked meal.
Both Phil and Lucie are very personable as well. We sat and talked with them for a long while as if they were our close friends. And if talking is not your thing and you just want to relax and have your privacy, no problem, they are not pushy for conversation at all.
The place itself is fantastic. It sits off a side street right off of main street Ouray. It is about a minute walk to a great row of shops. The place is clean and comfortable with a feeling of home. The only difference is that this home is surrounded by the most beautiful mountains in all of Colorado. They do not call it the "Switzerland of America" for nothing.
