Asked for a non smoking room and got one that was supposed to be non smoking but had smoke odor and had obviously been a smoking room. Wireless came and went. Breakfast was marginal. Won't stay again. These people who gave it a 5 must have stayed in tents before.
The following is a letter that we just sent to customer service web site for the Days Inn:
Site number 4214 provided my wife, my son & his family and another couple whom we were traveling with the highlight of our recent vacation. Upon our departure, I asked for a phone number or an email address so that I could express our delightfull experience. I was simply handed a copy of your worldwide directory and was told that there's an 800 number to call, but I wanted to send an email to express our experience at this property. So, please forward this message to the Chairman & Mr. Ken Greene:
In reviewing the Days Inn directory it's easy to understand why the above mentioned location is listed with the maximum number of sunbursts and the chairmans award for quality.
I am burdened with the task of travelling a lot with my job. I stay at many different hotels all around this country. I can usaully find something to complain about at just about every place that I stay.
Last week, we were approaching the end of our vacation in Utah and Colorado. We decided at the last minute that we would stay the night in Salida. My son called around to several hotels in the area and after speaking to Mr. Mark Bryniarski (who eagerly convinced my son that we would be pleased with our stay at their location) committed us for three rooms for the night.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Mark's wife Mrs. Anna Bryniarski who seemed like she was expecting us and as if she has know us for years. Her husband Mark helped us find a safe place to park our truck with the 30' attached trailer and then helped us carry our luggage to our rooms. He proceeded to tell us that they have a great hot tub that's been waiting for our late arrival. All of us decided to take Mark up on his offer, we all quickly changed into our swimming suits and headed to the hot tub. While we were sitting out there we decided to order a pizza. The next thing we knew, the pizza guy showed up while we were all in the hot tub complete with paper plates, napkins and everything else. We couldn't belive it.
Everyone in our group kept saying how great everything was at the hotel. From the beautiful flowers to the comfort of the beds to having a full bar of soap "It was wonderful". I told everyone about all my hotel stays and that it's normally not this nice and that I've stayed at some pretty nice places over the years.
It's easy to see that Mark & Anna go way beyond the norm with making their hotel stand head & shoulders above any other hotel.
If you have never had the pleasure to visit this location, I would highly recommend that you plan a trip there soon. I know that my friends, family and I will certainly suggest that anyone that we know to alter their plans to include a stay at the Days Inn in Salida, Co.
You should be aware that Days Inn has never been real high on my choices for hotels until this past experience. Our highly delighted stay at this location has changed my opinion of the Days Inn hotel chain and I believe that you (on the high end of the business) can clearly credit the Bryniarski's for going above and beyond with their location in Salida.
Best regards,
Jim & Teresa Wright

I was very pleased to learn not all Days Inns were dirty, smelly hotels. This Days Inn was very clean, with a welcoming feel.
The front desk clerk was very nice. The room was very clean and a good size, the bed was comfortable, and the pillows were big and fluffy! We had a mini-refridgerator in the room but no coffee maker. They provided a big tube of tooth paste and a Noxzeema wash towel. The breakfast was typical, and the eating area was really small, but the owner got everyone talking which added a real homey feeling.
At the one end of the hotel, they have a small, but very nice, outdoor garden area. I had a cup of coffee out there in the early morning and found it very relaxing.
The Burger King right next door was clean and made a pretty good burger.
There's nothing to do in Salida, but it's a good place to stop for the night.

For the price we paid for this room we weren't expecting much but were pleasantly surprised. The hotel and rooms were very clean and the place overall seems very well presented. Staff were friendly and so was their little four legged canine! Can't fault the hotel at all. Salida itself we found disappointing, downtown though historic seems a bit down at heel and seedy, full of young peoples bars and not many places to eat. We drove back to the bland highway 50 area and ate in a restaurant with equally bland food.
