“Good Restaurant”

Twin Lakes Nordic Lodge

11 Aug 2007

We ate in the restaurant but did not stay in the lodge. So this review addresses the restaurant only. It offers a very relaxed dining setting with a great mountain view, and the staff is courteous and attentive. The food is quite good. Note: the chef tends to undercook. So if you order meduim rare, you will get very rare, etc. We had to send our meat back to be cooked some more, but after the additional cooking, it was excellent. They need to offer larger vegetable portions with the entrees. They also offer some nice Colorado wines. Entrees come with salads and bread. Prices are reasonable, and the quality is quite good.

We just returned from a 4 night stay here and it was very restful. We stayed in one of the lodge rooms with a double bed and a set of bunks for our children. The bathrooms were down the hall.
This place is very old and quaint with some issues like a warped bathroom floor or some carpet that is loose, but nothing that stands out as reason to leave, which is why we enjoyed all 4 nights. A breakfast buffet was included at the price of $95/night for the 4 of us.

We didn't do the lunch buffet, so I can't comment on the previous review, but the supper was FABULOUS. We highly recommend the Stuffed Trout, the Duck, the Crab Cakes, the vegetarian chili, the house dressing for the salad and the Fruits of the Forest dessert. There's also a cozy bar.

The owner, Charlie, was great and quite informative about local hiking info. We visited with him frequently during our stay. Dogs were allowed. Free wireless internet was available downstairs and in our room. Kayak and Canoe rental is across the street.

We hope to return in the winter to try the snowshoeing!

We did not actually stay at this facility, but stopped by the restaurant for lunch, so this review is for the restaurant only.

We took another couple because we had heard this was a decent place to eat right accross from twin lakes. They were both in the food service industry and could not believe the events that were about to transpire.

-They were slightly busy, but there were only 2 young girls that appear to be working. It took about 15 minutes before someone greated
us for seating.
-They seated us in the back and we didn't see a server for another 15
minutes. No one ever brought us a highchair, so I tracked one down in
the back and got it myself
-There were about 7 items on the menu, all burger related
-Once an overwhelmed young girl got to our table, she took our order,
forgot most of it, and we didn't see her again for another 45 minutes.
-Burgers were ordered medium to medium well and all were received RARE (one still cold)
-There were not fresh burgers. I think the buffalo burger was $12 and was obviously just a frozen patty.
-I made several trips to the kitchen to get silverware, water, ice condiments, etc. The 'burger bar' which had lettuce, tomato, etc. was mostly empty for the entrie 2 hours we were at this place and multiple requests for refilling went ignored.
-There was a guy near the cash register eating a sandwich as we were leaving. We were told that this was the owner who was there the ENTIRE time we were suffering though the worst luch of our lives and did not lift a finger to help the girls that were obvoiusly overwhelmed.
-We were all beyond words and could not even put together a sentence to complain, so just left in a very bad mood and still hungry. We did
not even bother to send the burgers back, as we didn't have another hour to waste.
-I'm sure there is more that I am leaving out, it is just that I have
never had a meal in which every possible aspect of it was this horrible to the point of crying or laughing, so some of the details excape me now.

Avoid this 'restaurant' (I use the term loosly) at all costs. A can of Spam will provide more reward.

“Great B&B”

Twin Lakes Nordic Lodge

I hated seeing just the one negative review of the Nordic Lodge. This property is a B&B and not cabins so I think the previous poster might have selected the wrong property. This is a great rustic B&B. I got married at Twin Lakes and had my reception here and everyone stayed at the Nordic and loved it and had a great time. I have nothing but positive things to say about the Nordic Lodge and John the owner/manager.

We called this lodge to book rooms for our family and older parents. We were told that they had a nice cabin that would suit our needs. Our arrival was just in time to have dinner in the lodge so we hadn't gone to our cabin as yet. Dinner was average but not bad for an out of the way destination. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. NOW THE CATCH!

Our cabin was not fit for habitation. There were filthy dishes in the drying rack coated with egg and who know what. Food from other guests remained in the refrig. The carpets had more stains and smell than one could imagine. The bathroom was absolutely filthy! There were dark hairs, brown bit and dust all over the back of the toilet. The walls had holes and were crumbling around the dirty pink tub. We were sickened. The bathroom closet had balled up sheets on the floor. We inspected the beds and hope ours were clean. It was late and we had to stay till morning. If our older parents weren't with us we would have slept in the car. No one could sleep.

The next day I asked the owner to come and see our room. I was told that it was "rustic". He agreed that it hadn't been properly cleaned and that his biggest challenge was to get reliable help. WOW! We paid an outragous $175.00 for that night (no good will offer to refund the night) and checked out early. RUN from this place.
