“Uncomfortable bed, scratchy sheets, high price!”

We payed $617 for four nights (Thu-Sun) in a room with a king-sized bed and "sleeper sofa". I have fragrance sensitivity and requested an upper floor room with a window that opens. We ended up on the second floor. None of the windows in this hotel open. Some of the rooms have "windows" over the central lobby/bar/atrium. If you like quiet, you don't want one of those rooms. Our "window" faced outside and the room was reasonably quiet although we could hear the television next door. The bed is opposite the window and the long wall has a desk, television, dresser with a coffee table and sofa opposite. The size of the room was acceptable. The bed had no padding and was bouncy like a trampoline - not very comfortable at all. The sheets & towels had no apparent fragrance - thank goodness. The spare blanket & pillow in the closet most definitely were fragrance laden. The mattress on the sofa bed is a spring mattress - no padding - miserable. Because the bed was too bouncy for us to sleep on together. We took turns sleeping on the sofa seat cushions on the floor. The sofa seat cushions were more comfortable than the bed. The sheets were scratchy, as was the toilet paper. The shower curtain smelled of mildew. The fan does have an always on option for noise abatement, but it's "white noise" sound is not that pleasant. There is bottled water in the room when you arrive with tiny little signs telling you that your room will be charged $4.75 per bottle if you drink them. Ridiculous! These rooms do NOT have refrigerators despite what you may read on the internet. There was a small coffee maker and the usual coffee packets. There was an iron, ironing board and hair dryer. There was a nice-sized closet with ample wooden hangers. The decor was tasteful and the comforter on the bed was nice. They do not use triple-sheeting on the beds, so you get direct experience with the blanket used by all the guests before you - maybe they wash the blankets in-between guests. I had very little contact with hotel staff, so I can't comment on the service. Seems like this hotel is trying to be a high-end hotel, but without provide high-end basics like triple-sheeting and comfortable beds....I would not stay there again by choice.

“A great stay”

I stayed here on a layover March 8-9. I had no problems with check in it was very quick and was greated with a smile. I was on the 5th floor and my room was great. I did not have the problems that others have complained about like the hot water issue ( I had hot water in the morning and in the evening) and the musty smell. All I have to say is the bed was great, it was not too soft like others complained about. I slept all night and that is rare in a hotel bed. The hotel internet was perfect I had no problems at all. I used the gym and it is really good with alot of equipment and it was well stocked with towels and water. I did not eat in the restaurant as it was closed due to bar mitzfahs but I did have room service and the cobb salad was one of the best I have ever had in my life. Overall this is a good hotel and I would definately stay here again. The bathroom could use a little tlc as it looked slightly run down but I have no real complaints of this hotel.

“Needs Work, Not Fresh, Disappointed”

Sheraton Hotel Stamford

13 Feb 2008

Simply put, I was disappointed. Staying here reminded me of why I tried not to stray from Marriotts for the past 5 years. Fresh paint over the past 25 layers will only cover up so much. The staff was nice, but not experienced or motivated. My non-smoking room smelled like it was almost on fire. When I asked to change rooms, I was told they were sold out. At 10pm that night only half of the 2nd parking deck was full, so I find the sold-out hard to believe as long as I've been doing this. The room wasn't dirty, but it was run-down. Chips missing from furniture, musty smelling bathroom, the old tub looked like it had been in a war, the toilet ran all night, and the comments on the mattress comfort are true. My stay probably would have gotten a Neutral rating, but no hot water at 8am is just unacceptable in a hotel like this. It was barely a trickle, came and went, and I find no excuse for lack of hot water in a chain like a Sheraton. I made my complaints known at the front desk on check-out. No appearance from the manager, no offer of compensation, so I just left and made a point to never return.

“Great Conference Site and Comfortable Accommodations”

Sheraton Hotel Stamford

Save Review
4 of 5 stars
Southern California
10 Nov 2007

The Nonverbal Learning Disorders Association's first two-day East Coast conference brought me to the Sheraton Stamford—which, at first glance of the atrium-style lobby, reminded me somewhat of an Embassy Suites in reverse (back windows rather than front doors and windows exposed to public view).

As one of the conference volunteers, I have to say that this site was excellent for an event like ours. We had the most ample exhibitor space of any place we've used (mostly in Northern California). The hotel even allowed us to truck in box lunches from a deli that donated
them to us, plus pizzas and sodas both days from a place across the street. Staff was at the ready for most anything we needed.

Now for the guest accommodations: I got one of the Starwood Preferred Guest rooms. I slept well and had WONDERFUL spaces for the closet, desk, and bathroom. The only things those SPG rooms need are (1) a refrigerator; (2) a microwave; and (3) some Drano Professional Strength run in the bathtub, as I experienced the beginnings of a slow
drain even with a shower.

Having security near the elevators after dusk was great. The gentlemen
on duty barred anyone from going up unless he or she had a room key or
one of the hotel's safe deposit box keys. Front desk staff showed the utmost in courtesy and efficiency all the way around.

The restaurant, while having overall above-average selections (the minestrone was the only item I didn't like), can get pricey. Full breakfast buffet is $17.50 per person every day (some Best Westerns I've stayed at have a similar selection and is FREE). The IHOP across the street is a better bet for those not having to staff a conference.
And EVERYTHING at lunch and dinner is a la carte, with main courses on their fairly limited menu starting around $20. (On my last day in Stamford, I walked over to the Super Stop-n-Shop next door and bought brunch from its salad and hot food bars.)

Finally, renting a car for Stamford on the weekends is best done from the airport (JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Hartford, etc.). Although Enterprise has an on-site office at this Sheraton, weekend vehicle returns can get tricky because Enterprise is open only until noon on Saturday and closed on Sunday. Keys may still be dropped off between 12:01 Saturday and on Sunday, but Enterprise makes no bones about billing right into Monday.

“Great Hotel, Beds uncomfortable”

Sheraton Hotel Stamford

17 Jun 2007

The hotel was immaculate. It was especially nice for businesspeople. In the lobby, there were computers available for use, but they were not complimentary, as stated in another review. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. While we were there, there was a prom going on, but to our surprise, we were not disturbed whatsoever. The pool was nice, and you did not see many little kids around it since it was 4ft-5ft deep. The fitness center was adequate to supply as many people as there were there.
Overall, this was an extremely nice hotel, but the beds were extremely soft. I personally do not like soft beds, and woke up with a backache, which took me the whole day to get over.
I would recommend this hotel for those who are able to sleep on soft beds lol.
Good Traveling=)
