We stayed here for 4 nights - June 26 -30, 2008. Our room was spacious, clean & nicely decorated. Having 2 bathrooms (one with shower & the other with a bathtub) was definitely a plus when traveling with 2 teenagers! When using the master bathroom, be sure to turn the light on before you go into the toilet area, as the light switch is outside in the vanity area of the bathroom. Also, for some strange reason, the bath towels were stored in the vanity area rather than in the actual shower area. We were in room #427 with a very nice view of the pool & ocean. This room had a very small & narrow balcony without any chairs. Evidently, the larger balconies are with the rooms that have king bed rather than 2 double beds. A little shell was placed on the bed for a "tropical" welcoming.
The manager's reception was OK - basically just chips, pretzels & beverages. The buffet breakfast in the morning was very good, but the dining area did get crowded later in the morning and on the weekend. The buffet included an omelet making station, bacon, various types of cereal (but not granola), scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, pancakes/French toast, muffins, bagels, toast, fruit (oranges, bananas & cantaloupe), various juices, milk & coffee.
The beach is right across a non-busy street. The hotel provides complimentary chairs & umbrellas at the beach. However, be sure to get a towel from the pool attendant before you go down to the beach. There are numerous lifeguard stations on the beach all the way down to Deerfield pier. The waves were small, but the water temperature was very nice - around 81 or 82 degrees. Some sections of the beach had more seaweed than other parts. There were a few jellyfish, but that didn't seem to detract people from swimming in the ocean. There were some shells on the beach, but nothing in comparison to the wonderful variety of shells on the Gulf Coast.
If you want to use your skim-board, you need to go to the right of the stairs or all the way down past the pier, as the lifeguards do not like people to skim-board on the populated sections of the beach. The hotel has some boogie boards available, but not very many. However you can buy one at Wings for $13. We didn't think the snorkeling was very exciting, as all we saw was sand!! Perhaps we weren't snorkeling in the right place.
We ate lunch at the hotel restaurant a couple times - slow service, but the food was fine. We walked down the oceanfront boardwalk 15-20 minute walk to the pier and enjoyed our meals at JB's, Ocean 234 & Cafe Viggiano. (JB's was probably our favorite restaurant.) It was a very nice & safe area to walk to in the evening.
The pool at the hotel was nice, but unfortunately the water temperature was very warm due to the hot & humid weather. They were in the process of remodeling the activity hut by pool while we were there, but it looked like that was almost finished. The pool attendant set-up the towels, pool toys, etc. adjacent to the area, so this minor construction was not a problem at all.
The exercise room was adequate - with 3 treadmills, 2 Precor machines, a stationary bicycle, free weights & some other weight machines. It was never too crowded during our stay. However, if you go to the exercise room in the early morning, you better wear sunglasses, as it is very bright in that room, as the windows are not tinted, and there are no blinds on the windows!!
All in all we had a very nice time at the Embassy Suites at Deerfield Beach, and I would definitely recommend this hotel.
