Once we saw the owner and the property, we did not stay! I would not have been able to sleep! He looks like a character from one of those motel/murder movies. He had to be smoking something! The rooms smelt like mold! There "rentals" for the beach were being stored. The hot tub was closed, their "garden" was nothing more than over grown weeds, and their "fountains" were cheap turtle fountains. It smelt like the turtles must have been dead. Also the innkeeper reeked of hard liquor. do not stay here!! I also read in other reviews that people had stuff stolen from their rooms including cellphones. Beware, not worth it. Try Englewood bay motel. 2 miles from the beach and very clean, cozy, and very friendly people. They have great reviews

We are locals but had family in town staying at the Beach Croft so we got a room for 2 nights so we could spend some time with them and have a little "getaway". There were 2 positives, the bed was really comfortable and it is just a little walk from food/casual entertainment. We knew ahead of time that outsiders weren't allowed on the property and you have to sign a waiver when you check in that absolutely no guests will be on the property. We found it very odd that they were so paranoid about it. We invited our grandparents to a beach cookout and grandma(in her 80's) accidentally came on the property instead of meeting us at the pavilion at the public beach and as soon as she set foot on the property the mumbling owner guy told her to leave the premises immediately. We felt it to be extreme. The secret garden ambiance draws in so many mosquitoes because of the water features with standing water so hanging outside isn't pleasant at all. At one time a family member who was staying there was sitting on a cement bench in the garden and it fell out from underneath her and broke. When she went to caretaker she was made to feel guilty and wasn't even asked if she was ok. The first morning we were there we both had clogged noses and sore throats because the air filter in our ac unit hadn't been cleaned in forever and we cleaned it out ourselves just so we could breath while we slept. Everything in our room was mini-sized(including the 8" tv) and taking a shower was almost impossible because the shower head is 5' from the floor, you have to duck to get your head wet. Englewood is a cute little beach town but definitely don't stay here. If you do, don't say you weren't warned.

My husband and I had just driven 3 hours from Ft. Lauderdale for a funeral in North Port and happened to find this place by luck. It was on the beach, it was very comforting and it just so happened they had an opening.
After a long plane ride and long car ride, this was just what we needed, not to mention, it's been awhile since he and I went away without the kids.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for some restful R & R.
Thanks Sharon, it was a pleasure. Look forward to doing it again soon.
Great Halloween decorations...

My friend and I arrived late at night, it was dark and we were greeted cordially by sharon, and shown to a room with kitchenette and two queen beds... ok it was nt luxury but we only wanted to sleep there and the luxury was being one minute from the sea shore. we went out of the room. turned left and lo and behold there it was... the sea... We extended our night to two days and want to book again this week .....
We needed chairs and a sun umbrella and they were there immeditaly....We both found the owners friendly and super efficient ... I dont know what others expect but we were pleased and happy to have found this place and will be recommending this further THANK YOU

I can't believe the other review writers stayed at the same place! We were weary from business travel and stumbled upon this place. It was right near the beach so we decided to call it a day and check in. I don't know if it was the owner that greated us, but she quickly accomodated us with a very quaint room, that was as nice or nicer than many of the Bed and Breakfasts we have stayed at. The bed was THE MOST COMFORTABLE we had EVER slept in. There was a kitchenette that was sufficient for a getaway. We were greeted with a gift basket containing 2 of each of the following: bottled water, bag of chips, granola bar, and pudding cup. It was a REALLY nice touch to make us feel welcome! the place was plenty clean and it is walking distance to the beach for real. Maybe 100 steps. I'd love to go back with the kids and grandkids and stay a week next summer. it is NOT the Hilton, and certainly not a Four Seasons, but it was very clean, quaint, and romantic as well.... did I mention the COMFORTABLE mattress?? I just don't know what the other peoples experiences were, but I have recommended this to several friends who like to do a weekend getaway. There is a cute courtyard with plants and birds and fountains, and we had seats outside our room to sit and enjoy the sounds of nature. By the way, the beach the hotel is near does NOT suffer from Red Tide like the ones at Sanibel, so that is another PLUS. I give it 2 thumbs up! To each his own I guess. P.S. I have travelled much of the world so I do have many other places to compare it to, and it by far exceeds most of the others. A great place for a romantic getaway or for a family trip. p.s. One of these days I'll get around to uploading my photos.
