“Great choice for us in Fort Lauderdale”

Best Western Oakland Park Inn

This is a modest hotel that turned out to be perfect for our stay, which was one night prior to embarking on a cruise. Our room was clean, and we particularly enjoyed the tiki bar in the evening. The breakfast was just right. We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Fort Lauderdale for a cruise departure.

My wife, my 2 year son and I stayed at this wonderful place for only 1 night for the weekend and had a great time. The room was super clean and everything worked just fine. The pool was excellent as was the incredible full breakfast the next morning. The staff was friendly and playful with my son. We considered the negative reviews and discounted them as picky people with active imaginations seeking to score something free. And after staying there--we were right. We plan to stay there again.

Stayed at the Best Western Oakland Park for 7 days in March 2008. We used it as a base camp for a beach vacation. The hotel was perfect for that purpose.

We were in a non-smoking standard room on the third floor. There didn't seem to be a bellhop but there were rolling racks that guests could use to bring luggage up to their room. The rooms are organized around a court yard containing the pool, Tiki Bar and some patio tables. There are stairways at each corner and an elevator in the middle of the floor. Parking for one car is free, at check in you will get a paper permit to leave in the window when your car is parked in the lot.

Our room wasn't fancy but it was clean, quiet and everything worked well. The room had an alarm clock, TV with remote and basic cable, coffee maker and supplies, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, a safe (at no extra charge), microwave and refrigerator. There was a telephone on one of the night stands and another one on the desk. Voicemail is included. There were also plenty of towels and a copy of the Miami Herald by the door each morning.

The hotel is secure, very clean and well maintained. Everywhere we went, the staff was cleaning or maintaining something. I didn't see one piece of trash or cigarette butt on the ground during the entire stay. After 10 PM the gates at the bottom of the stairs were shut, although guests could swipe their room key in the door for access.

We visited the Tiki Bar twice. It had several TV's, piped in music and plenty of seating to relax after a tough day of lounging on the beach, which is about 10 minutes away by car. The bartenders were very friendly and would order carry out for guests from nearby restaurants. Didn't use the wireless internet, Business Center, Fitness Center or Laundry Room (which also had vending machines).

Can't forget the nifty complimentary breakfast. Every morning there was all you can eat scrambled eggs, sausage patties, toast, muffins, bagels, Danish, cereal, fruit, yogurt, coffee, milk and juice, served buffet style and a self-service waffle maker. (I probably forgot to mention something, there was so much.)

As for dinner, Miller's Fort Lauderdale Ale House, which has very good food at reasonable prices, is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. For something a little more upscale, the Kitchenetta restaurant across the street from MiIller's has wonderful Italian food.

Anyone on a budget or who likes a good value and does not need to be pampered should consider staying at BWOPI. But please leave a room for us when we return next March!

    • Liked — It is an incredible value for a Florida hotel in high season.
    • Disliked — People who don't tip the breakfast staff who make sure that the food/beverages were available and the tables are clean. Leave them a dollar or two – they will really appreciate it.

“Wonderful experience”

The hotel may seem a bit out-dated at first, but don't be fooled by first impressions. Wonderful hotel and staff. Very helpful and attentive to your needs. Pool is lovely and comfortable. Rooms are also tidy and comfortable. Area is great for shopping ( mall is within walking distance) and a FANTASTIC restaurant is located in the shopping center nextdoor called "The Usual Place". We were a group of 18 New Yorkers, and we ate there every afternoon and evening. The owners are friendly and the chef is superb! GREAT FOOD and SERVICE. Every dish we tried was DELIZIOSO! We really enjoyed our 2 day stay here. COMPLIMENTI A TUTTI VOI. I recommend the Oakland Park Inn and The Usual Place to anyone looking for a comfortable atmosphere and fabulous dining. Buon Viaggio e buon appetito

I have to agree with everyone who says this hotel is a little gem. Our group had 8 rooms for two days pre-cruise and loved it. The place is impeccably maintained and very clean. Free breakfast is the icing on the Cake

The pool is great and the tikki bar refreshing. The staff is fun and friendly.

In the immediate area-

There is an ale house located within 5 minutes walking distance that we ate at twice that is VERY reasonable. Shopping is all an easy walk. The deli and the market to the left and around the first corner is TO DIE FOR. Don't even consider any place else for Lunch

I would (and will) stay here again in a heartbeat,
