Our first trip ever to Ft. Lauderdale for a 10 year wedding anniversary. We went with the Ocean view(private Balcony) King suite....... This room was huge and well worth the reasonable price paid in Sept. Priceless to have our own balcony to sit on and we spent many hours there when we were not on the beach itself. The weather everyday was quite entertaining with thunderstorms rolling in and out but they never lasted long. Fun to watch the lightening show from our balcony the last night. Also entertaining to see ships coming and going from Port Everglades and air traffic from commercial planes and the occasional helicopter zipping down the coast. Sounds noisy but really it was not. The sound of the surf(4th floor) drowns out any undesired noise) The beach was just perfect and at this time of year we shared the beach with only 10 to 20 other guests, sometimes just a few other people. We could not help to jump out of bed early every morning to see what spectacular sunrise that morning would bring and we were never disappointed! The last morning there it was so gorgeous from our balcony that we threw out suits on and ran down to the beach for a swim at sunrise! Highly recommend this for an unforgettable moment. If you are a beach comber you will delight in all the treasures to be found on this beach...including chunks of coral and beautiful beach glass. We also saw a dolphin, small brown lizards hanging out in the bushes on the beach, pelicans and hawks fishing large schools of fish right in front of the resort! The city comes through every morning and grooms the sand and removes excess seaweed with a machine. Do I need to tell you how warm the water is? Well if you are from a northern state like I am, then yes! Water temp must of been around 80 degrees and it was heavenly. Clean clear water and with the right amount of sunshine was a light emerald green in color and just beautiful! The huge porch facing the ocean is also wonderful and there is lots of seating including rocking chairs and more lounge type couches. We chose not to rent a car and avoid the hassle of that for the 3 nights we were there...but the hotel is not really within walking distance of stores and off sight dinning so we did take a cab a few times. Hotel staff was friendly and very quick to be helpful but I did find the front desk staff a bit stiff, polite but stiff. ;-) We ordered breakfast in our room one morning as a treat...it was wonderful. Had to call for a couple extras a few times, bottle opener, towels, extra cream for the coffee and they were quick to respond with no attitudes. We did splurge on a special dinner in the main dining room one night which was wonderful, pricey but not outrageous compared to other places offering fine dining in the area. We brought in our own beer, wine and liquor that we bought after our check in to help curb the cost of that! (empty mini fridge in our room, microwave too) So we would HIGHLY recommend the Pelican Grand, especially for off peak travel like we did!
Go for the suite with the separate sitting room and a ocean view balcony is ALWAYS worth the extra c...
