“Loved The New”

Bahia Mar Beach Resort

25 May 2008

Bahia Mar was everything we could want in a hotel. We were looking for a place to stay close to FT. LAUDERDALE beach that would prevent us from having to drive around during Memorial Weekend. Bahia Mar's price and beach access via a little ramp, made the stay pleasurable. Our view was breathtaking (Ocean Front Room) and the cafe-type restaurants owned by the hotel were very good. It was extremely quiet, even it being such a busy weekend. My husband and I were able to do exactly what we wanted to do...relax. I did wish the pool was a little bigger, but the ambiance was great! We will stay again. Also, Melissa, the concierge really tends to all of your needs. Call her or email her if you need to plan any kind of excursion. She was great! :)

My husband and I attended our niece's wedding at the Bahia Mar. Most of the friends and family of the bride and groom stayed there. The hotel staff could not have taken better care of us. All the way from the maids to the concierge. The other guests at the hotel we spoke with all had the same positive comments about the staff. Our room overlooked the marina and we could also see the ocean. The room was sparkling clean and the beds very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the wait staff remembered us and were very attentive. We look forward to going back for another visit at the Bahia Mar.

“Great location for the money”

Bahia Mar Beach Resort

Great location for the money, across the street from the beach with an ocean view room for half the cost of beach front hotel. Looked at lots of hotels and took a chance on this one trying to balance location and cost of stay. Excellent choice! Renovated older resort with charm and history. Top-notch, friendly staff that catered to our every need and request. Excellent restaurant. Will definitely stay there again when returning to Ft. Lauderdale.

“Great Hotel, on the beach, where the action is.”

This is a great older hotel, in the style of the 60's-70's, kept up very nicely. Scenic views of the ocean and marina. A constant breeze off the Atlantic let me know I was ON THE BEACH. Staying there reminded me of "Old Days", 1970's, when that area was the center of all the good times. Owners have done a nice job keeping the propert up dated, clean and smelling good.
Seemed like a good value for the location, room size and quality of furnishings, along with the level of service AND the lack of the smell of curried lamb in the lobby. LOT'S of action and activities nearby. Will visit again.

Pros:
- Nice raised walkway provides access from the hotel to the outdoor pool and beach.
- Good location, within walking distance to restaurants and bars, but not located too close that they are a nuisance.

Cons:
- Parking at the hotel costs $18 a day, and it can be difficult to find a space since it is a shared multi-purpose lot.
- Walking across the entrance/driveway is hazardous as cars race in and out without looking for pedestrians (there are no sidewalks to go across the entrance), hence the pro for the necessary raised walkway.
- Waitress at the pool bar claimed that she had returned cash given to her with the bill and asked for the payment a second time. When I finally straightened it out and received my change, I handed her a tip, and she promptly snatched an extra bill out of my hand.
- Waitress in the hotel restaurant overcharged us for four beverages we never ordered. It was relatively easy to straighten out.
- Door card keys would demagnetize about once a day per person, even when we only had our beach towels near them (no cell phones). On one such occasion I was ignored by the desk clerk for over 10 minutes while she fielded questions about room rates from high school prom goers (yes, they have proms in the lobby too). When I was finally helped, I was told I had to wait in the lobby for security to escort me to my room, that took another 10 minutes for the guard to show up. And all of this took place while I was standing there half-naked in a wet (and now freezing cold) swimsuit. At least the security guard was cheerful about the whole thing.
- The beach adjacent to the hotel is an absolute zoo on the weekend, go early if you want to stake out a patch of sand.
- The interior of the hotel is shabby, with hanging wires from light fixtures, busted lights on the walkway, and paint stains on the carpeting.
