My wife and I stayed from 4/29 - 5/2. I read many of the reviews before I left, so I was aware of the issues and recommendations. First, let me state, that we did not pay for our stay, being that I used my rewards points and we went w/o our children for the first time in a long time, so we could have stayed at motel 6 and enjoyed our time.
The location is Great. Steps to the beach.
As noted elsewhere, this is really a Time Share location, not your typical hotel. No room service or restaurant. The front desk and concierge are helpful. We did take reviewers advise and stayed on the "canal" side. Never heard a peep from the street, plus had great views. Rooms are a little worn.
The elevators are a bit of a pain, but not enough to say Im never going again. During peek times you did have to wait 5 - 10 minutes. This probably happened 2 times to us during our stay, but most of the time it was less than 1 minute. But, it was not peek season.
The beach was great. Note, pick up a chair and umbrella at the hotel because the beach charges $10 - $20 for lounge chairs that are already on the beach.
We ate lunch at the beach front restaurants on the street. There are 5 or 6 all w/ outdoor seating.
The pool is fine. Some have written that you need to arrive early to get a lounge chair. Maybe at some time of the year. However, being from the Northeast, I didn't go to FL to sit by a pool. I go for the beach. We only spent a few minutes at the pool.
Took everyones advise on a car. Just took taxi's. Only $20 from airport. Then less than $10 (on way) to all the restaurants on Las Alos Blvd were we ate most nights.
Overall, we loved Ft. Lauderdale. Beach was great, restaurants were great. Hotel was fine.
I wouldn't plan a once in a lifetime vacation at this Marriott, but It was pretty good place to redeem my points. Certainly not luxury, but still good for a 4 day break from life.
