We needed a place to stay on our way from the Keys to Orlando area. Fort Pierce seemed like a good place to stay overnight (Nov 7-8) as it was not too far away from Orlando. A couple of days before our arrival I decided to look for a place to stay overnight as I knew we would arrive late. I found out that most places were fully booked, probably because of the repair work after Hurricane Wilma around that area. Many inexpensive places were full of people coming to help with the construction work. So I had to choose Fort Pierce Days Inn Midtown! I paid around 90 dollars a night and I knew beforehand it would not be worth it.However, we needed a place to stay so I made the reservation. The exterior of the place looked "normal" and the staff at the reception was friendly but the room! Well, it was spacious and was situated in the main building but the smell in the room was terrible. The wall-to-wall carpet felt damp and the bathroom had seen its better days a long time ago. We didin't dare to switch the air conditioning on as we thought it would not be very safe to use because of the dirt. Keeping the window open helped a little to get rid of the smell. If we had stayed longer I would have made a complaint. But, after a long drive from the Keys with a child I had no energy left. In the morning there was some sort of breakfast (the table was under the staircase). We ate quickly and packed our bags - we were happy to leave early and never return. During our trip around Florida we stayed at many different places and this was the only place that was really disappointing! So my piece of advice is: only to be used in an emergency!
