“Nice Hotel, Let Down by Restaurant”

We booked this hotel on Hotwire and got a great rate.

This is a nice small hotel with a lovely golf course and pool area. It has a warm and comfortable feel about it, not new and shiny.

The hotel restaurant is quite good and the food is great, but the front of house service is absolutely awful. I've never experienced service like it, and many of the other guests are saying the same thing.

The restaurant was pretty quiet on New Years Eve, which I guess says a lot, but it was crawling with staff. Twice the staff tried to take away my starter when I was still eating it, even going so far as to lift the plate away from me while I was still chewing! Our mains were plonked down on the tables before we'd finished our starters and then the starters were just taken away, whether we liked it or not.

No wine list was offered and the staff took the unused wine glasses away by putting their fingers in them to lift them up and then putting them back on the shelf to be used for the next person. I've just listed two problems, but the night was littered with them - too many to write down here.

It's a nice hotel, but seriously let down by the restaurant.

PS:- the beds were astonishingly comfortable.

Long time visitor to the Miami area but first time visit to the Diplomat CC - and I will definitely return. This is a quiet little gem tucked away from the madness of the city which provides a best of both worlds solution to the traveler to South Florida. Hotel is small enough where it is peaceful, yet if you want action you can hop on the shuttle bus which runs like clockwork every thirty minutes to the Diplomat on the beach, and you have full access to all facilities at that property. Rooms are very comfortable, bathrooms just spectacular. Spa and gym facilities top notch, tennis and golf as well. Staff is helpful and although we only ate one meal there (breakfast) it was delicious. Much prefer the strategy to stay here and go out to South Beach, etc for fun as opposed to staying in the thick of the action and enduring all of the crowds, noise, madness, etc. Or maybe I'm just getting old.

“Not for everyone”

The Diplomat Golf Resort & Spa

27 Dec 2007

I have stayed at the sister hotel to this one, The Westin Diplomat, and thought I would try something different. This hotel is off of the beach, is only 4 stories high but has a golf course and spa. The rooms on their web site look as if you are staying at your rich uncles mansion, with hardwood floors, down duvet, etc. I was disappointed that the rooms didn't look anything like the picture, but instead like an ordinary run-of-the-mill room. There was no hardwood floors, and most disappointing, no duvets! There was a lack of pillows as well.

The bathrooms were well appointed with 2 sinks, a tub and separate shower (with a rain shower) but the 2 sinks took all the counter space and i had no place to put my toiletries.

I ate in the one and only restaurant twice for lunch. The first time, i had to send back my lunch 3 times before they got it right. The 2nd lunch was just OK. I was in the bar with clients one night for drinks. The bartender informed us that she was shutting down and then walked out. Within 30 seconds a very rude "manager" showed up at our table to inform us the bar was closed and we needed to leave, not when we finished our drink, but NOW.

I had a facial and massage at the spa. Both services were the worst I have ever had. It felt like I was getting massaged by a brother or boyfriend that had no idea what they were doing!

When it was time to leave the front desk had to call for a taxi....i waited 10 minutes!

This is the cerebral baby sister of The Diplomat down the road at the beach, which is more of a large scale convention hotel. I'm not sure which of the two I would pick between the two.

My family and I booked this room based upon the wonderful experiences we have had in the past at other Starwood Luxury Collection properties. This was a dissapointment. The grounds, bathroom, and the golf course were all fine, but that is where it ended. The mini bar served warm drinks. After requesting it to be repaired, we returned home that evening to yet more warm drinks. We called room service, only to be told that "the bar is closed". The front desk woman was kind enought to bring up 2 complimentary beers. The TV was embarrassing. Old school, small and the remote had dead batteries. When coming and going with our 2 year old, not once during a 4 night stay did anyone offer to open the door as we struggled with belongings and a stroller. Room service was just about non existant. The first day I tried to call I found out the reason I could not get through is because the button on the phone was mis programmed. The next day I asked the opperator for room service and tried to order. The atttendent thought I was crazy and had no idea where I was seeing the items I was requesting on the menu. Come to find out I was put throught to the room service at another property, and not even the one we were at. Finnally, after figuring this all out, I called again, and finnally placed the order. The food was lousy, if I had not been so hungry, I would surely have sent it back. The bedding. Horrible. My sister who stayed at the Hyatt in Fort Lauderdale had a beautiful feather bed. She paid only $149/night. We had thin, uncomfortable blankets and sagging spring mattress. Oh, did I mention the lobby? This place feels like a country club that happens to have a few rooms upstairs, as opposed to a hotel that happens to have a country club. There is no cozy hang out area, it is very industrial feeling, much like that of a high school (A very nice high school). Hardly ever a staff member in sight. In fact, other then the valet, maid, and the front desk person, I do not recall seeing anyone else who worked at teh hotel. Very odd feeling. If you want to spend some money on a nice hotel, there are dozens of other superior propoerties with ocean views for half the damage. MAybe this is good if you want to play their course all day, but that was not why we came.
