“You think YOU had a bad stay?”

Jupiter Beach Resort

We didn't even get to stay!! We live in Jupiter, and my husband and I were trying to get a weekend away. My husband called the front desk, reserved a room for the following Friday and Saturday nights. After talking to me (within 2 hours), we figured out we couldn't stay, so my husband called right back, to cancel the reservations. The front desk was rude rude rude. They refused to cancel our reservations, we ended up having to pay 500 dollars for a room we never got to enjoy.

We live here in Jupiter, and used to enjoy a dinner, a day at the outside cafe on occasion. We drive by there now and shake our heads. A year has gone by, ridiculous amounts of phone calling, and for $500.00, the Jupiter Beach Resort has lost our local business and continues to get a bad reputation in town. Can't wait for someone to take over the 'resort'.

“A quiet little hotel”

Jupiter Beach Resort

22 Feb 2008

The Jupiter Beach Resort is a quiet hotel on the beach.
.
When we arrived they didn't have the two queen beds we had booked so we were upgraded to an oceanfront room. Wow! We were on a lower floor so we rolled over in bed and saw the waves crashing and the coconut trees waving.
This isn't a hotel with a huge pool with a swim up bar and waterfalls. The pool is- just a pool.
There was a Tiki bar that was closed during most of our stay because of weather- understandably so. The gift shop is small.
There is restaurant that serves a buffet for breakfast, along with a regular menu. We had plans to go to dinner there, but we didn't realize we had to make reservations and would have had a two hour wait for a table- but it was Valentine's day. We were okay because there is a great restaurant- Jetty's- nearby that was hopping and we didn't mind the wait there since there were plenty of locals there to chat with out on the tree
( palm of course) lined terrace. The Jupiter Beach Resort was not exactly hopping- very quiet with many elderly people enjoying the restaurant.
After dinner at jetty's we returned to the hotel to have a drink at the bar and listen to some music. There was one other couple there and a woman by herself. There was two couples in their fifites, at least, playing pool. The musician was very good, but we opted to bring our drinks to the room
Our room had a stocked bar. If you use it, if you care at all about expenses, I'd keep track of what you use.
Room service was fine- not exceptional, but good enough. It was really ,really nice to sit on our little balcony, overlooking the ocean, while we had breakfast and read the paper. However, gratuities and taxes are already added to the check, and staff who delivered the trays never had exact change "Oh, I don't have change, I'll come back" If you don't care if you give an additional tip, then no problem.
There was no tub but a very large tiled shower served the purpose. There was a spot on the bathroom floor about the size of a dinner plate that was there when we arrived and still there when we left.
The beds were super comfortable and the flat screen TV was very nice. Had we brought our notebook we would have been very happy to have the direct internet access right in the room.
The beach which is right in front of (or back) of the hotel was reached by a wooden boardwalk with shower jets to rinse the sand off. The beach itself was interesting because of the huge rocks there. We found it more pleasant when we walked down the beach a little ways. There is a charge for umbrella and chair rental on the beach.
The bathrobes the hotel provides (and can be purchased when you leave) are great- they feel like egyptian cotton on the outside and soft terry inside. I would make sure that housekeeping returns two to the room, if they take them to launder. One was missing after our first day there, but the staff was very amenable and two were there the next day.
Overall, the hotel met our needs perfectly, with just a few minor glitches. They offer a little extra luxury, a very pleasant staff, and a quiet retreat. Since just being away is a luxury for us, (we have pets) I was happy about the little extra touches.
We're 60 years old - so it suited us. If I was single, in my twenties, I would have been disappointed. But, if I was that age again, and single, I probably wouldn't have been staying in Jupiter at all-and if I was a child- I sure would head to Orlando. We headed up the highway to find a tourist shop to get some made in Fla gifts to bring home. (you know...the inexpensive tacky stuff) NO tourist shops that we could find in Jupiter- but there is an Einstein bagels and a good Chineese restaurant close to the Hotel. If we were Marlin's fan- we would have been ecstatic since they have their Spring training camp there-( so where do all the ball players go to let off steam- they're young aren't they?)

We loved Jupiter though.
And we'd probably be very happy to stay at the Jupiter Beach Resort again.

“False advertising - NOT a resort.”

Jupiter Beach Resort

We are well traveled and understand the difference between different levels of hotels. We've stayed at the Ritz as well as at the Super 8. This hotel had very nice rooms and courteous valets and bell staff. Here's the problems with the hotel and reasons we will encourage anyone avoid the hotel at the current prices and conditions. Right now this is a 2 star hotel.
1) Food is subpar at best. We tried 6 dishes and only could finish one of them. We are NOT picky eaters. We did not receive out entree at Sinclairs until 1:15 minutes after we were seated. Room service food was equally as bad. 2) Bar is understaffed - one person for many people = long waits. 3) Giftshop is laughable. $65 for flip flops. 4) Front desk staff is just plain not friendly. 5)Website misrepresents beach. The beach front is unspectacular at best. Not beautiful like in pics. Hotel should post disclaimer about beach condition on the website and take down all old pictures of beach. 6) Overpriced. This is a business hotel that happens to be on the beach. Standard rooms should be around $145/night for what you get. $30 for a chair on the beach? 7) Singer by the pool during the day is off key and, again, laughable. 8) HOW is is possible in this day and age to have a room without on-demand movie service? LaQuinta at $65/night even has this service. 9) We were charged $75 for needing a check out at 2 p.m.

“We really enjoyed our stay”

My husband and I stayed for four nights over MLK weekend. Given some of the recent postings, we were quite concerned about our selection. We actually found the resort quite delightful. Our experience may be influenced by the fact that we had a very reasonable, in-season rate. However, our 9th floor room was very comfortable and well furnished. The bathroom was large and featured a double shower. The best thing about it was the fabulous view off the balcony.

It's true that the beach has experienced significant erosion. The pool remains a great alternative and they even have a sand terrace with loungers. The restaurant at the pool served great food and the staff were all quite friendly. It was a bit crowded on the nice days but that seems to come with the territory in the winter.

The exercise facility was well equipted and always empty. Front desk staff were polite and helpful. The best part of our experience was the dinner we had on our final night. Sinclair's was a reat treat. While not inexpensive, the quality of the food and service justified the prices.

This was our first trip to the Jupiter area and we loved the town. It has a more relaxed feel to it than Palm Beach or Delray. Less traffic but just as many good restaurants.

JBR is not a five star, Four Seasons experience. It's a beautiful, comfortable beach resort that we will most certainly return to.

“Surf and...SEWAGE!!”

Our otherwise nice, three-day stay in an ocean-view room (costing more than $1300 with all the state and local taxes) was marred by an intermittent stench of sewage coming from the shower in our room. We reported it three times, and each time the hotel said it was sending "Engineering" to fix the problem. However, "Engineering" was a young man, looking to be about high school age. The first time he arrived with a tiny plunger, spent five minutes and said "you're good to go." Second time he poured some yellow crystals down the shower drain and pronounced the problem fixed. Third time I don't know what he did, but I do know we had the smell of sewage back again.

Other than that the room was nice - beautiful furnishings, a great bed with wonderful linens and that view! But to spend the better part of $1500 in three nights and have a shower smelling of excrement is totally unacceptable. Jupiter Beach Resort's Management has not responded to either of my enquiries, in writing, about this.

As for service, it was mediocre at best. Most of the employees seemed to think that requests were bothering them or cutting in on their personal time. The lone employee at the front desk each time I interacted with him or her was semi-polite but not remotely friendly or helpful. Even a request for a newspaper to the telephone operator was met with a long pause and an indication that this was an unusual request. The only truly outstanding service was room service breakfast, both delicious and reasonably priced.
