“Nice... sums it up”
I stayed here with my family for one night, two times, en route to other Florida destinations. Pros for this hotel are: Location; it is great to stay out of the actual city if you want to drive away to other places as we did. Also, it sits right on a beautiful beach and that was very nice. Activities; the hotel had a lot going on, which I loved. There was literally something for everyone - my son even walked in on a soccer game organized by the kids club for guests. He had a great time and met some cool people. Housekeeping was good. I had to do some emergency laundry overnight and there was a moment of nervousness when the clothes could not be located - but they were and we had apologies from the staff and even follow-up emails. Food; good, and the outdoor dining area is lovely. Don't forget that large iguanas make south Florida their home and you will see a lot of these as you dine. My only complaint would be the guests who feed these lizards and think it is funny to do so. I made a comment about this to a fellow guest who was trying to entertain her young child and we ended up in a sort of a snide face-off until the server scolded her for throwing grapes to the iguana and her child for throwing grapes AT the iguana.
Cons for this hotel are: The rooms could use a bit of updating; while public areas are very nice, the bathrooms are kind of stingy (all the older Ritz hotels have this, even Central Park). Club lounge is not the very best I have experienced (ran out of champagne, never saw a new bottle); the concierge service was harried and businesslike, and worst, worst of all: we made the huge mistake of renting a car from the in-house Hertz desk through the concierge. First horrible thing was that my husband didn't have a tip in his hand for the guy who delivered the car. He came to ask me, I gave him money, the guy was gone, and my husband said he behaved himself like a real jerk in any case. Hmmmmm..... We returned the car, I stupidly didn't check the entire car properly, and left a Canon G12 in it with about 1'500 pictures from our week in the Keys. Gone, of course. Yes, it was definitely left in the car and yes it is definitely gone/stolen from the car. I asked everyone to keep an eye out for it, and I am sure that the concierge Alex did his best (his colleague,.... no comment), but of course it wasn't returned, not even the chip.
So that more or less put a pall on the stay for us. It isn't the worst RC I have ever been to, but it certainly absolutely isn't anywhere near the best. Next time we go to Miami,I will probably try another hotel. Also, I found it pretty darn expensive for what it had to offer.
Take ocean view, it is good.
