We just got back from 5 nights in the FL Keys. The first night we stayed at the Hungry Pelican. There was a big race going on in Miami and this is the closet we could find after our landing on Fort Lauderdale and heading towards Key West. We had read the mixed reviews
and decided to write in. Our room was clean, the sheets/bed/ matteress
were good and there was a new comfortor, The bathroom door would shut all the way, but the bath was down a small hall, so this didn't bother
us. The bath vanity and fixture were dated, but all operated just fine. The grounds were tropical and they have constructed an open air multipurpose space. The Office was a similar open air structure and had a small water/ pond and small bridge at the edge. There were 2 wooden boardwalk/ docks out over the water and these were fairly new. There was some sand to sit in, and there was trees and plants there too, but we went out on the dock to get the most sun. There was a small bit to eat available in the morning. I had some fruit, coffee was fine, but I don't like the powdered creamer, so I walked to a local Starbucks. The breakfast items weere packaged pasteries. We did eat at the local Mrs. Mac's that we read about and it was good, and just a few buildings away. We also walked to see the African Queen, the boat form the movie. This place was just as I had expected from the reviews. I'm not a Big Box Hotel kind of person and prefer privately run quaint hotels/motels. The help was very helpful and friendly. We felt very safe and dispite being one of the units near the road, noise wasn't a problem. Hope this helps.
