Our friends Band was booked to play there..so off we trekked to join in on the fun...and fun we indeed did have!

The people were awesome, the food great but the rooms...HORRID. We numbed ourselves from the lack of Hot Water and bugs in the shower (no tub), with LOTS of laughter. At least the sheets and towels were clean. The toilet, AC and TV worked and honestly we really didn't spend much time in the room. Our friends ran out to K-Mart to buy their own blankets. So we shared our room horror stories yet toasted to the good life, jammed to the great music and danced under the Tiki hut till the sun set and rose again. Then it was FISHIN TIME!!

The views spectacular, porpoise came right up to our canoe and lil inlets were full of wild life.

Awful, Awful, Awful. And this is the best that I can say about Gilbers Resort. We made our reservations for two nights at Gilberts Resort on the internet as it was the last three days of Spring Break and almost all of the hotel rooms were already booked. We got the room at $125 per night sight unseen. We got to the hotel in a rain storm and should have known that we were in trouble when we read the sign in the office that said "If our standards do not meet your standards, maybe you should stay somewhere else". We got into our room and found dead flies and dirt in the corners, a rusty refrigerator, plumbing that was loose in the bathroom, shower door that did not close and a picnic table outside our door that was falling apart. Seeing as we had already paid for the room we decided to try to make the best of the stay by going to the Tiki Bar for a glass of wine. The Tiki Bar was full of drunk, smelly, smoking patrons and smoking bartenders. You could not believe that a bar that was open on all sides could be so full of smoke. After listening to the drunk patrons cursing and yelling at each other we decided that we had enough of that. We went back to the room and thought that we heard a sonic boom. We opened the door and determined that it was the noise of large trucks and RVs crossing over the drawbridge right outside our door. The final straw was when 10 Cubans (5 kids and 5 adults) checked into the room next door to ours. Loud, drunk and screaming at each other they took over our porch as well as theirs. We got on the internet (not Gilbers as it was not working) from the hotel next door and started calling hotels and motels working our way down the keys. We finally found a motel in Marathon that has a cancellation for two nights due to the rainy weather. We packed in under six minutes, left in the rain and ate the $250 that we paid for the room. For the next three days we had a wonderful time exploring the keys and Key West. Gilberts Resort, what a dump.

Commercial location...noisy. Room...was unclean, and smelled of strong smoke. Our room was on a dock...10 feet from the water which was nice, and the Tiki bar offered decent food and beverage average price. The music was great and from the beach/tiki hut/ area you could view the sunset. The property has some great features...the downfall is the room itself.
Okay for a one-night stay... but I wont go back.

I was in town for a dive trip and needed a hotel for one night. We paid $145 for the one night (we should have been paid $145 to stay there). We arrived at 10pm and when I walked in the room I thought it was a joke and of course the office was closed so there was nothing that I could do about it. First the fridge was a rusty pile of junk, I would not let my feet touch the nasty floors, no alarm clock, TV would work sometimes, the shower looked like a high school gym class shower, no hot water, moldy shower head, not to mention the two drunks we had to listen to yelling outside our door all night. This place looked like it was built in the 50's and has not been touched since!! The bar was ok, but not great. What ever you do do not stay here!!!!! Sleep in your car or a tent you will be better off!!!!!

Ok we found this place through "Bob" at the first gas station in the "Keys" he was very friendly. The hotel was great the people were very friendly at the desk. The room was clean and cozy but then again we didn't spend much time here since we traveled all day. My girlfriend and I were on a budget and this was perfect it had a shower a TV and a bed. The room looked freshly painted and it was clean. Tile floor was perfect I hate carpet. The beds were not so comfy but after doing stuff all day and being exhausted it really didn't matter. Some paint peeling off the shower but it didn't affect the function hey at least they are trying to make it look nice. The beach was kinda dirty but it's the Keys plenty of beach to go around. only killed one roach but it's Florida roaches are everywhere. Plain and simple a good crash pad if you just plan on sleeping here and showering, if you plan on laying in bed all day this is not for you. One more thing I am all for tipping maids but leaving an envelope for tips is down right tacky Gilberts A+ for effort we did enjoy our stay
