My wife and I made a quick trip to Key West. The Merlin Guesthouse was picked for the price ($200/night). When we booked, we were told parking is a problem. It is. There are two spaces in the back of the hotel that are reserved for hotel guests. Otherwise you are on the street(s) looking for a parking space (which are pretty scarce). We had one of the 6 rooms facing Simonton. These rooms measure 14'*9' in size. The bed basically occupies most of the space. A small table with a wall unit AC underneath and a small dresser takes up the remaining space. The headboard of the bed is at the far end of the room. Right behind the headboard wall is a small bathroom accessed thru a louvred door which is immediately next to the headboard. The sheets on the bed sit on top of a plastic covered mattress. No mattress pad. Street noise, noise from the other guests on the porch or in other rooms was very noticeable. The continental breakfast was OK - toaster was very slow in browning a bagel. Rooms were generally clean but could be best described as shabby. Proximity to Duval was good. I wish I would have spent another $50 - 100 to get a room elsewhere. As we were there for just a short time we just chalked it up to an experience. Lesson learned.

We loved this place. Stayed in a one bedroom bungalow and it was very nice, clean, roomy, quaint and charming. Just what you would expect in Key West. Parking is limited but we didnt drive much so it wasnt a big deal. It is located on the far end of the strip so one suggestion, rent bikes one day.. We walked all 3 days we where there and where exhausted by the third day. But we had a blast!!! Worth every penny!!! Highly recommend! They also have a great pool side breakfast. (muffins, fruit, juice, coffee etc..)

“Hated it”

The room was too small to even hold our luggage, the "new" bed was incredibly hard and uncomfortable, and the shower was disgustingly dirty and dripped non-stop. The paint color of the walls was oppressive and we had trouble closing the door. The staff who checked us in (a male) was unfriendly and did not offer to help with our bags or getting situated. We were supposed to stay there a week but checked out after staying there one horrible night. We didn't even want to stick around and see what the "continental breakfast" was. Maybe we wouldn't have expected too much if we hadn't paid so much for this room!!!!!

We just stayed in the Merlin Guesthouse last week. We stayed in a standard room and I have to admit I thought it was on the small side. But, we got a great price, the room was clean and had everything we needed. We thought the location was excellent, just a block from Duval and close enough to all the action to walk back and forth. Everyone we dealt with at the property was extremely friendly and helpful. The patio was lovely and the pool was great for a quick soak. Our favorite part was the resident cat who visited us several times. Just before we left, he came into our room to say goodbye. The funny part was he needed to jump into the sink first! I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a quiet, clean place within easy walking distance of Duval St.

“Merlin Guesthouse: Key West Charm in Wonderful Location”

My fiance and I rang in 2008 at the Merlin Guesthouse. This romantic property is wonderfully located in the heart of Old Town, 1 block from Duval Street. Even though we stayed in a room directly on Simonton Street, we were never bothered by noise. The room was quite small, but beautiful and clean. The exposed beam ceilings and high, 4 poster bed added to the romance. The front desk staff were always helpful. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. We didn't use the small pool. They could have extended breakfast a bit longer, perhaps until 11 or 11:30, especially on New Year's Day. All-in-all, a fantastic experience and we will certainly consider Merlin Guesthouse when we return to Key West.
