The hotel was okay, the ladies at the desk were very pleasant and very helpful, found a cockaroch in the room, was not a fan. The location was perfect, the pool was good, everyday the chocolate chip cookies were there at 5, delicious. other than the bug in the room, the rest of the stay was fine.

While the property had almost everything we wanted for a short stay (three days) we still left disappointed. The last night we were there we were getting ready for bed and my husband noticed a roach crawling up the mirror in the bathroom. He called to the front desk and the night clerk was very apologetic and sent some one up from maintenence with a can of bug spray. An acceptable solution at 1 am. Let me mention that neither employee was suprised and the maintenence man actually showed us where they were coming from and said that he thought that the problem had been taken care of. Mind you our luggage had been on the floor all three days. The next morning we went to talk to the day manager and he at first acted so suprised and when we told him that the night staff recognized it as a chronic problem, he became irritated with us (yes, with us) and said that everywhere in Key West has roaches. When we asked if that is what he wanted us to tell corporate, he said "I don't care, tell them whatever you want". Huh, O.K.? We were most upset with the fact that our luggage was on the floor for three days and that the Marriott would put up with this and just accept it as the norm. We then went on to the Marriott In Key Largo, did they not consider the fact that these critters may have traveled with us? We didn't want anything from them we just wanted someone to say "I am sorry and I will look into it" . We travel about three times a year and always stay at a Marriott because we appreciate the standard the uphold. Now I seriously question that standard and will definately shop around. The best thing I can do is tell as many people as I can about my experience and hope it helps some one.

On an overnight visit to Key West, we arrived on a Saturday in the mid afternoon. We had been to Key West some years before, and wanted to return. It was a very busy weekend as there was a Motorcyclist Charity Poker Convention going on, so all the centrally located accomodation was fully booked.
We found rooms available at the Waterfront Marriot Courtyard Hotel. Because of the high demand that weekend, they had hiked up there rates considerably, but as we had little choice, we booked for one night only. The reception staff proved to be businesslike, but not very friendly. The two en-suite we were allocated, were of a reasonable standard and clean, but the bathrooms were invaded by black ants.
A shuttle service into Key West was provided, which we took advantage of that evening.
We took breakfast next morning, buffet style which was basic but edible. When it came to check out, we discovered that, in addition to the nightly room rate, they added a 6 per cent local tax charge and a 12 per cent room tax charge, something that they failed to mention at check in.
This amount, when added together, would have allowed us to spend another 3 nights at many other hotel chains in Florida.
Key West is a magical place to visit, go if you can, but be warned, check prices carefully.

Pros: Waterfront location; nice pool; clean room & bath; comfortable beds; helpful front-desk staff.
Cons: Over 2 miles from downtown; our rooms faced noisy Route 1; garbage trucks awoke us as 3AM.
We reserved a 2 room suite, but found it had only 2 beds. Front desk substituted 2 regular rooms without hassle. On a previous visit we stayed at the Doubletree, which was a much nicer hotel, though even further from downtown. We were expecting the Marriott to be as nice, but it was definitely a lower class property despite the high price - outside entrances to rooms, no elevator, etc. Next time we'll stay at the Doubletree, or maybe try the Westin.
