We stayed at the Dewey House and it was very nice. The house was very quaint and charming with an "museum-like" quality to it. The innkeeper John was absolutely the highlight of the hotel. He was very friendly, welcoming and full of local knowledge.
On the downside, I would not recommend this hotel for your honeymoon if you are looking for a romatic get away. Nor would I recommend Key West for a beachside wedding. The beach at the Southernmost is small and public. The middle Keys offer more quiet romantic possibilites. This would totally be appropriate for an anniversary or a couple seeking to find a nice place to stay while visiting Key West.
Its location was great, just far enough from the action of Duvall street but just close enough to walk ( if you are very energetic people). But it was in the middle of the Southernmost Compound, which made it feel very coorporate as opposed to personal. So for us, we felt a little lost in the mix. We were looking for something a little more special. Overall the hotel its staff and decor was very nice ! We enjoyed it!

We absolutely loved the Dewey House! We had a room on the first floor, which we were a little worried about. When we got there, we saw that our room was right next to the entrance. But- it was actually not a problem. It was very quiet, clean, attractive, comfortable, and very big. We had a private porch off of our room with a sun-porch as well. We thought it was sweet and romantic.

It was also not a typical B&B. It did not feel like you were sleeping in someone else's house. We thought this was a plus. Also, it was all couples. It had a very intimate feel to it.

The breakfast was somewhat high-end continental. There were tasty muffins, croissants, and the like. There was freshly brewed coffee and mimosas. Everything was help-yourself, but in a nice way. You didn't feel like someone was hovering over you.

Also, the location was fantastic. It is on Duval, but not the party area. It is right near the Southernmost Point memorial. There was a scooter rental place right across the street. My husband had a blast riding all over the city.

All around, we loved it. We are thinking about going back to Key West in the next year and we will probably stay there again. Also, once we got down there we looked at other placed we were considering, and we were very glad that we chose the Dewey House. It was great!

Also, Blue Heaven was amazing for brunch: 729 Thomas St. Don't miss it. And, if you like to kayak, Lazy Dog Kayak was great, too!

We were due to stay at the Inn at Key West, but due to it's location we tried our luck here on the off chance. The staff were excellent, particulary John C who is the Housekeeper. He made us feel very welcome and made a room available for us. We couldn't fault this place, the beach front location was ideal, as was the close proximity to Duval Street. Nice touches too, such as having the bedsheets pulled back in the evening, and having afternoon tea served.

My husband and I stayed at the Dewey House over Easter Vacation. We were extremely impressed! The breakfasts had fresh fruit, coconut pastries, whole grain breads, waffles, fresh squeezed o.j. etc.. Four o' clock teas included yummy keylime pie, fruit, cookies, etc.. Innskeeper John Cline could not have been more accomodating and made a point of sitting down and talking to us everyday. When there was a problem with our shower, they upgraded us to the upstairs suite with the wrap-around porch. It had a beautiful view of the beach and ocean. The rooms were very clean and had large bathrooms. We also liked how the Dewey House was at the quiet end of the island. We chose to rent bikes for the week and would ride to the other end for shopping, dining, etc.. We enjoyed eating at Louie's Backyard and for a less formal atmosphere, The Half Shell had good seafood. We are looking forward to returning to The Dewey House!
