I have stayed at the M&A 4-5 times over the last 9-10 years. I have never been disappointed. The last visit was with someone who had never been to Key West before and I promised her someplace special. She loved it and is already talking about our next visit! We stayed in the Bamboo Room. I prefer the Bamboo Room because it is a cottage in the yard with its own covered porch. We loved drinking tea and coffee there in the morning and sitting with a candle in the evenings. The room has been refurbished since my last stay (new air conditioner, shower and furnishings) and is even better! As other reviewers have said the owners are very aware of how much interaction you want and don’t intrude. I highly recommend treating yourself (and your partner) to a massage in the garden. They have a screen room/tent installed now which affords privacy and with the warm breeze in the middle of February really feels deliciously decadent for us visitors from snowy areas.

My girlfriend and I were looking for something a little different (for us) and Key West came up as an option. I had never been to Florida in general, and the more I looked into Key West the more intrigued I became.

A friend recommended the Mermaid and the Alligator, so we called and booked a room. Actually 2 rooms - nothing was available for the duration, so we needed to switch rooms 1/2 way through. This may seem annoying, but not the case. All the rooms are different so it was actually fun to stay in two different completely different spaces.

Room 1 - Tree Top Suite - It's on the 3rd floor, and away from it all. It has charm, is perfectly decorated, and amazingly comfortable.

Room 2 - Caribbean Queen Suite - Totally different feel, but just as good (not quite as quiet though. One major bonus is a huge private porch.

The little things are what made this B&B perfect.

The yard is private, quiet, and completely relaxing. Every afternoon we'd drag a couple of lounge chairs off into a private corner to read and catch a little nap.

On the first day we inquired about renting Bicycles, a few minutes later the owner had a local renal company deliver them (really - it was less that 20 min).

As it turns out - Florida is hot - which results in thirst, and there's a well stocked fridge with sodas and water for guests - like I said - it's the little things.

We've stayed at a few B&B's, and we've had good and bad hosts. The hosts at Mermaid are perfect - they're there to answer questions, chat if you like, or they completely disappear. They have an incredible knack for reading people and knowing how each guest wants to relax in their own way.

My husband and I stayed at the Mermaid and Alligator for 7 days. We stayed in the Audubon room, which was lovey. Doors opened to the outside garden area, the bed was comfy, and we loved how spacious the bathroom was.

I found the decor beautiful, and there were so many lovely details. The Innkeepers were very helpful in recommending places to eat and things to do, and also made reservations for us.

Definitely eat at Pisces - delicious! Next Key West trip, we will certainly be staying again at the M&A!
