First of all, this place is priced well. Yes, as many reviews will state, the rooms are dated. However, that can be a plus since you get the feeling of stepping back in time. But more importantly, our room was spotlessly clean. Not a speck of dust on the floors. Very comfortalbe bed and super clean sheets. (although I was expecting a queen size bed in my room and there was a full-size). And after staying in everything up to the Ritz-Carleton, our room had the best shower I have ever encountered. Perfect after going to the beach. Even high priced hotels can fail the shower test.
And our room was so quiet. The pool area is great for meeting people staying there. There is a family atmosphere and also the pool area is where the continental breakfast is served. Perfect. Now it's not an elaborate C. Breakfast (it does have croissants, fruit, bagels, coffee, tea, etc.but no meats), but who wants to fill up on breakfast when you are in Key West and want to have a fresh fish lunch somewhere. Actually its a real continental breakfast.
We enjoyed the location which was why we chose Alexander's in the first place. It's a short walk to the beach which we consider important. You can still walk to the nightlife but it's nice to know that coming back you are at the Alexander Palm Court and a quiet area. Don't think that there is nothing around there, just less. Your bike, scooter, whatever rental is only 2 blocks away and there are still several fine restaurantsm deli's and actually several art galleries within 5 blocks.
They have I think 9 rooms and only 6 parking spaces. However, don't worry at all. There is plenty of parking available on the street. After trying places all over town, our best experience dining was at the Duval Beach Club (right on the beach about 3 blocks away).
So you know, I arrived the first night at 5:45. The front office was closed. But don't worry about this at all if you are going to be late. They have it very organized. A note was waiting for me on the gate with clear instructions and within 2 minutes I was in my room. It's good they lock the front gate so at night no one can enter without a key.
On another note, Rich who runs the office, is a great resource for all your questions regarding stuff in Key West. Don't hesitate to ask him.
I would definitely stay there again.
